@ConklinSteph This. While I do agree that we should have multiple teaching strategies is important, direct instruction plays a vital role for all learners. Direct instruction is a tool that should not be made to be the bad guy.
7th Grade Science @phms_panthers are doing a true Challenge-Based lesson over watersheds. It is so great to see student think critically and create questions on their own. @aguilarscience@VKrosigk
Huge congratulations to these incredible educators for being future-ready superstars! Their dedication and hard work have earned them a well-deserved Sonic drink. Cheers to shaping the future of education!
They were able to see where they can make changes. We used their mountain and map to work through the rules of topographic maps. It was great for them to have a visual reference
@FISD_NelsonMS I tried something new. We started learning topography today. Normally, I’d consider the foam mountains after they’ve learned it. Instead, Ss got 10 min to stack & trace how they thought it should go. Then, as we went through the rules, we referred back.
@FISD_NelsonMS Ms. Aguilar’s group did some blended learning rotations to practice plate boundaries! We had vocab magic, boundary sorting, feature ID, mystery pixel art, and a practice “quiz”. Ss got immediate feedback from me as I checked their cards & practice quiz!
@FISD_NelsonMS @ArgumentDriven our 7th graders investigated thermal energy by testing the best insulators in cups. Ss designed & conducted an experiment, developed an argument, presented their findings. Between collaboration, innovation, and communication, so much #FutureReady
Thanks for stopping by 8th grade ILA, counselors, Coach Bernard, and Mrs. Garner! The kids enjoyed having teachers participating with them! @SchepersILA
@FISD_NelsonMS@CounselingNMS@NelsonAthletics@FISDSecScience 8th is gearing up for our @ArgumentDriven where we will question how mass changes during a reaction. This week, we looked at evidence of a chemical reaction. Some teachers accepted my invite to be students for a day!
8th grade science has ventured into the wonderful world of the law of conservation of mass! this week we are focused on learning how to count atoms in chem formulas. We had blended learning stations w/ all different kinds of practice! @FISD_NelsonMS@friscoisd
@FISD_NelsonMS@NelsonAthletics I’m so glad I was able to end my week watching the sunrise while our football teams scrimmaged! Nelson hosted the second Dust Bowl in preparation for the season!
@nellz70@EDUwithEmily During longer breaks, I like to do paint by number crafts. I don’t have to work hard mentally. It allows my brain to focus on something productive without the decision making factors
