And I think it’s okay to admit that in all this, there is hurt.
The hurt of knowing how much love, artistry and sweat went into the making of ARIRANG, only to deliberately exclude it from being recognised in response to institutional tokenism and xenophobia.
BTS is choosing to stand against the vile segregating policies of award shows that treat non-English speaking artists as outsiders who don't belong in the main categories.
Separating artists by language doesn't celebrate diversity. It normalizes separation. That's exactly the kind of barrier BTS has spent their entire career breaking down.
BTS has proven that good music transcends language, culture, and borders. They've brought people from every corner of the world together through their music, and staying true to those values means more than any award ever could. 💜
and while were at it! fuck you @billboardcharts ! dont you for a second think we've forgot how many 'rules' youve added over the years because youre scared of the success and power these seven boys have
paving the way doesnt always mean the first to win an award, it means the one who makes impact where it matters and allows for those who follow in their footsteps to be seen and treated fairly too. that is what bts are doing, and that takes courage
BTS spent years opening doors that weren’t built for them. now they have the freedom to decide which ones are worth walking through. bts are truly living legends.
also it takes courage to let go of your dreams. i know they have dreamed about that over the years but the reality and how it’s not about the music at all has became more evident year after year
no but everything aside, i am so incredibly proud of them cause for bts to announce this as 7 together after the years of disrespect in terms of racism, xenophobia & discrimination they've faced from this god awful industry, especially after putting out one of their greatest albums out into the world really tells me everything i need to know. i have so much respect for them in my hearts bc you can just tell that it's the art and how it's reaching people that they care about (we've known this) and FAWK the rest. lmfao.
BTS announces they will not submit their music for the 2027 GRAMMY awards, following the Recording Academy’s addition of an Asian-focused category:
“I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.”
and no matter how much people like to pretend it was for representation, grammys introduced their little asian category to keep them away from the main one so they can keep rewarding their american artists freely. I am glad the boys are stepping away from the racist shitshow
do you know how fucking refreshing it is to see an artist stand their fucking ground against a gigantic fucking institution in 2026. I feel vindicated, not only as an ARMY, but as a human. BTS, you will be good. you were always gonna be good, but it only confirms it.
and last thing im gonna say is, ARMYs are the only fandom who immediately recognized that new asian category for what it is: blatant racism, while others were celebrating a potential win for their faves. the fact that BTS, an asian group, thinks the same as us says a lot. 🙏🏽
