One of the brilliant things about Casino is how the camera is essentially a character in and of itself, moving through the film as a spectator, glancing around, scanning the environment. Scorsese referred to this as "secret observations by an omniscient viewer."

Casino has to explain an enormous amount of information early on: how the Tangiers operates, how the money moves, and how organised crime controls the entire system. To make that information easy to process, Scorsese developed a visual style that moves the audience rapidly through the casino’s inner machinations. As he explains...

“There are a lot of tracks and zooms; as well as pans and zip-pans. There are also more static angles, cut together very quickly, because of all the information being crammed into the frame. If you did too much moving you wouldn't be able to see what we're trying to show. So that became the style—a kind of documentary.”
