Great to (finally) share the findings from my @EyeResearchAus Masters in 2021 with @SteveTrumble and the MCR staff. We’re all very grateful to the team at @UniMelbMDHS for allowing it to happen!
SSSM is proud to support and promote ‘Surgical Mentor’, an initiative from Australian surgeons that began with the question of how to best mentor students and junior doctors in the 21st century.
A year ago, a non-academic friend listened to a talk I gave. I thought it went great. My friend disagreed.
She said that academics are experts at making interesting stuff boring—and that we should all take a speech class.
So I did. And here are 6 most useful things I learned.
It's been great being back in-person for our weekly @StVincentsMelb @SSSMelbourne events this year - suturing, hand-tying, laparoscopic simulation, and even a trivia night. Surgical education is not quite the same on Zoom! 💉🪡🏥
Did you know that SSSM Members can access the @UniMelbMDHS Surgical Learning Portal for free? The Portal is full of amazing resources for those interested in surgery, such as notes, videos, lectures, OSCEs and more. Keep up to date at https://t.co/m4D1laXv69!
Congratulations and welcome to our 2022 Oculus Committee. We’re really excited to bring you another action-packed year of lectures, tutorial and workshops this year! 👀🖥🔬
The test of our humanity is how we regard those with pre-existing conditions. The strength of our society is how well we care for them. The work of community is to look after each other. Nobody is dispensable. Let us be bold to counter the creeping nihilism.
I took rapid tests through my mild Covid infection two weeks ago. Two takeaways: (1) I was positive for 9+ days. (2) rapid tests show gradation which can have some value for monitoring nasal viral load / presumptive infectiousness. #safertogetherSF@michaelmina_lab@EricTopol
Triple Vaccinations worked really well.
I didn't die, get Ventilated in Intensive Care Unit, or even get really unwell.
I had 3 days of feeling off-colour, and needing Nanny Naps.
I shudder to think of how my body would have responded to SARS-CoV-2, if I had NOT been vaccinated.
It’s been amazing to be a part of @TTOPodcast this year. Having the privilege of chatting to our guests has intrigued, informed, and inspired me in equal measure.
I’ve learnt and seen the many ways to be a passionate and kind surgeon, and that there is not one path to success; I hope that all of our listeners have learnt as much as I have along the journey. Thank you for listening.
