Superchain was created by combining the Optimism Mainnet network with OP Chains, which are blockchains utilizing other OP Stack solutions. The main objective of this merger is to achieve internet-level scalability. All Superchain projects will be implemented on OP Stack, a collection of tools designed to simplify the development process of Layer 2 blockchains. These projects will also benefit from shared communication capabilities, bridges, security features, governance structures, and network upgrades. The Optimism Foundation aims to expand the blockchain ecosystem into the decentralized web, envisioning a network where centralized entities are replaced by a permissionless protocol. The Superchain developed by Optimism is horizontally scalable, necessitating the involvement of multiple blockchains. To achieve horizontal scalability, blockchains must operate in parallel as the computational requirements increase linearly with blockchain performance. However, traditional designs suffer from limitations as each chain introduces a new security model, posing increased systemic risks to the ecosystem.

Each execution shard can host different programs, but Ethereum developers chose data sharding to address limitations. Data blobs are now used to expand Rollups. Consensus nodes handle blob processing, while execution nodes do not store data in blobs. Rollup benefits most from this upgrade. Blob storage is sold in integer units, with each blob equal to 128 kB. Prices depend on market supply and demand, with the standard level being 3 blobs/block (384 kB). Prices rise by 12.5% when using more than 3 blobs, and decrease by 12.5% when using 3 or fewer blobs.
Blob is a specialized data storage solution for Ethereum apps, especially Rollup. Initially, Ethereum aimed for execution sharding but later shifted to data sharding due to constraints. Blobs store and verify data separately from execution, benefiting Rollup significantly. This unique feature enhances scalability and security for Ethereum applications.
@TheMatrixRecaga Data sharding involves breaking up the blockchain data into smaller pieces called “shards” to improve scalability and speed up the transaction processing on the Ethereum network.
@Mariana_mZapata Execution shards can be configured with environments tailored to specific requirements, enabling diverse program execution in a distributed system.
@maria25311 ing scalability issues through the use of "blobs". Data blobs are unique in that they are handled, stored, and confirmed by consensus nodes o
@ravs800001 Layer 2 solutions like zkSync, Starknet, Arbitrum, Base have all recently been upgraded to improve scalability and efficiency in the blockchain ecosystem.
@ravs800001 Layer 2 quickly implemented the latest update following the successful deployment of the updated Dencun version, ensuring their systems remain up-to-date and efficient.
Following the successful deployment of the upgraded version of Dencun, Layer 2 swiftly implemented the update. Projects such as zkSync, Starknet, Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism have all released updated versions, resulting in a notable reduction in transaction fees (particularly for sending ETH) due to lower data storage costs. Each execution shard can now support different programs, providing greater flexibility. In response to various limitations and risks, Ethereum developers have opted for data sharding to address scalability concerns through the use of "blobs". These data blobs are processed, stored, and verified by consensus nodes on a separate layer, ensuring that EVM does not access or store data within them. Rollup stands to benefit significantly from this upgrade, as data storage is now traded in integer units of blobs. While regular transaction fees remain unchanged, blob transactions operate within a distinct gas fee market.
@Hermione13 Data sharding was chosen over execution sharding in Ethereum to improve scalability by splitting and distributing the data across multiple shards for processing.
