I believe a much better approach would be to allow students to create their own reference sheet(s) for quizzes and exams - if they understand and have practiced the material they will be tested over then they should be able to gather & use important formulas, theorems, & concepts
A statement I provided to CNN on @LockheedMartin and @RTX_News pausing Employee Resource Groups and RTX pulling away from the Grace Hopper Conference.
I believe companies—both large and small—are being placed in an impossible position: comply or risk losing critical contracts.
Ultimately, these changes stem from policy decisions at the federal level. However, in an ideal world, companies with the privilege of power would take a stand on behalf of their employees, their company's future, and our national defense overall. Companies that understand that low-cost, high-impact initiatives—such as Employee Resource Groups and participation in women-focused conferences—not only foster a more welcoming workplace environment but also help retain top talent.
The cost of removing these programs pales in comparison to the long-term consequences of attrition.
We’re talking about losing highly skilled, highly educated engineers and scientists. Beyond the risk of losing this top talent to competitors who *did not* pause Employee Resource Groups and other relevant support programs, the broader aerospace industry is already facing a talent crisis.
With an aging workforce and retirements outpacing recruitment, removing support structures and critical outreach efforts—such as participation in the Grace Hopper Conference—will only worsen the problem.
Companies like Lockheed and RTX play a critical role in driving innovation and strengthening our national defense. If they struggle to recruit and retain top talent, it’s not just a challenge for women and minority groups—it’s a risk to our nation's security and technological leadership.
Eliminating these initiatives does nothing to solve the challenges at hand. In fact, it exacerbates them - and that becomes a problem for all of us.
happy international day of women and girls in science 💫
i love being a woman of color in science and hope to be a role model for the next generation of scientists 🌌🔭🪐☄️
Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science 🔬
On 11 February, we celebrate the important contributions of women to the STEM disciplines. On this occasion, we asked six female scientists #AtCERN what science means to them.
We’d like to hear your answers to the prompt “For me science is…”.
Tell us in the comments below. 👇
