@donie@hasanthehun@JamesCarville "There's no place any place for criticism of the government of Israel in the Democratic Party."
*fifteen seconds later*
"I have a big issue with the government of Israel."
@Etsy what is going on with your sorting mechanism? I’ve always loved being able to set a maximum budget and then sort by highest price when looking for vintage items but sorting by price has not worked in any capacity for some time now thus I’ve stopped browsing/purchasing.
Just a friendly reminder that more than 99% of people serving in Congress were born in a world where the highest income bracket was taxed at least 70%.
@thenation@KathaPollitt Ceasing further publication of a “readable” biography of Roth that is “very weak” in explicating his work as worthy of artistic merit does not strike me as a loss for culture nor Roth’s legacy as both a flawed man & literary titan—one Bailey left even more tarnished than before.
*I don’t mean to imply biography is an inherently parasitic form of writing—just one obviously invested in the idea of how a person’s life informed their work. Rummaging through students’ journals & leaving notes to pry into their personal lives, however, IS decidedly parasitic.
Are we really having the separate the art from the artist debate concerning someone known for rummaging through the effects/minds of renowned writers in order to gain insight and garner enough material to then pen a biography that serves to provide context to their body of work?
I feel exhausted by trying to convey the clusterfuck of complex emotions that surface everytime I’m reminded my traumas are ones shared by many—I struggle to articulate my gratitude towards those who out their abusers because I’m still not brave enough to join their ranks. #MeToo
I feel grateful that my Mr. Bailey was flagrant enough to message “Finally 18” at 1:30 am on my birthday & reveal the creep he further proved to be when he came up behind me at my sisters’ graduation & whispered in my ear “I still remember where you sat” 9 YEARS AFTER THE FACT.
I feel nauseous to feel grateful about any aspect of this—but his haste to note my legal age exposed a predator unworthy of my time. Someone more insidious & patient (Blake Bailey) might’ve remembered my seat & made me feel special enough to not see his inappropriate infatuation.
I considered dropping more than $500 dollars on a custom watch until discovering there were only two type choices for engraving: Times & Arial. I’m all for only offering a few curated choices for a custom watch, but that design ethos should extend to type; Didot & Avenir perhaps?
Meanwhile will continue to lead by example by buying with timeless style and sustainability in mind. Exhibit A: this Radcliffe English teacher circa 1954 look I sported in winter 2009 is ripe for resurrection this fall (sans American girl doll) @PendletonWM
Perpetually peeved that women’s fashion is not as focused on investment and longevity as menswear. Just want a @putthison esque site for women but personally lack the attention span to start one (as evidenced by the activity on this account)
@sophievsamul@t0rrrie More evidence for #add / I swear if you two get me back in the game it will only be to look at cute animal gifs and make fun of NPR gaffs.
