Testimony of survivors/family of the Minnesota political shootings — where an unhinged far right-winger went to the homes of several Democratic state lawmakers and shot everybody he could find, including spouses and pets — is heartbreaking.
Violence ain’t the answer folks.
@swd2@badfish62315036 “Trans Bolshevik Migrant Commie Woke Weak Dangerous Sleepy Overreaching” … it’s all Newspeak interchangeable word salad that when I sleep blends with 1860: “Abolitionists who want to take our liberty, oppressors, protect your daughters and wives, myscegenistic Bolsheviks…”
@DailGerry@itsrosesm I’m more charitable. I thk ppl bring different priorities and life history to their work. Bush2 exaggerated WMD intel. But I thk he believed they were there. Biden saw early exaggerated complaints on border & had other priorities — so failed to see the real problem when it grew.
@DailGerry@itsrosesm Asylum seekers are actually legal immigrants, or can be. There cases were adjudicated in court. We did that for Cubans and many others. There’s a long history of that, starting way before Biden.
@DailGerry@itsrosesm When you and I say our ancestors were here “legally,” we should recognize that they didn’t ask permission or get visas from the ppl who were already on the land. They needed or wanted to come — and came.
I don’t feel guilty and anxious about that, but it gives me empathy
@aleksihara@itsrosesm@Jolie_Miller09 I live where I live because I love the place & bec my ancestors lived here. I think it’s a great culture. I recognize that other ppl may see their own culture as better.
It’s not a contest. The goal is to live together and to learn from the best in other cultures.
@beachboy1972@lindco22@itsrosesm 2) If you’d read my previous post, there’s no “White hate.” I’m “White,” W. European descent.
As 1 example, Black History Month isn’t about diminishing Whites. It’s about acknowledging that Blacks also contributed to U.S., something that historically was not fully recognized.
@beachboy1972@lindco22@itsrosesm 1) Non-“White” contributions:
Paper
Algebra
Trig
Gunpowder
Potatoes
Coffee
Crop Rotation
Accurate Calendars
It’s a long list. But the reality is that racial stereotypes of color are a somewhat arbitrary concept.
@DailGerry@itsrosesm Here’s my deal with ICE. Tough job.
But they don’t represent me. I’m more of speak softly, carry a big stick kinda guy. Too many of them seem like the fake tough guy in gym class trying to prove something. They talk big from the get-go and are way too quick to pull a gun.
@DailGerry@itsrosesm Mine came early, in the 1600s. But there weren’t really immigration laws then. You had guts enough to make the trip, you went.
Some came with $. Some came as voluntary indentured servants.
@DailGerry@itsrosesm Yeah, clearly Biden didn’t pay enough attention. I don’t think it was malice. He worked to keep people from leaving their home country in the 1st place. But — bec of drought and other issues — illegal crossings grew and his team failed to get a handle on it. Agreed.
@aleksihara@itsrosesm@Jolie_Miller09 Uhhh, yeah, but I’m not the one treating non-western cultures as a monolith. I’m part of Western culture & partial to it.
I’m not arrogant enough to think it’s superior in all aspects to all other cultures. Nor that skin color is the answer to much of anything.
@DailGerry@itsrosesm 3) Seems to me there is plenty of room for building a consensus here: crack down on illegal immigration; focus first on dangerous criminals, not every day workers; treat people who aren’t threats like they’re decent humans; devise a better system for future legal immigration.
