My unreserved respect goes to the 51 women who gave their lives for the Aba women’s riot on this day, almost a century ago. The sophistication of an organised resistance is historic.
I know this will charge reflection amongst women not just of SE and SS extraction and encourage us to keep fighting for our rights as a people.

As a daughter of an Efik-Qua historian, growing up i was privy to conversations that tasked women folk to work towards changes they envisioned for the society.
My late mother consistently protected the rights of the girl child and women without fear even as she was married into a conservative space.
I was conflicted many a time but as i grew older, I understood that; doing the right thing in the smallest dose was better than nothing.

Much respect to all the activists, who speak up against wrongdoings in our society as of today without you, we would be lost.
