The Iranian regime just published six "demands" to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, dressed up as defending "the Iranian nation" and "the Iranian people."

Let's be clear who's actually speaking here.

This is the same Supreme National Security Council responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of its own citizens, from crackdowns on protesters to a war they escalated rather than ended. They don't represent the Iranian people. They rule over them.

This is the same apparatus that has run Iran's economy into the ground for more than 40 years; corruption, mismanagement, and billions funneled into regional proxy wars instead of the country they claim to speak for. Whatever Iran had, this regime spent it chasing an ideology of permanent confrontation that was never going to produce anything but ruin.

Now they're blocking a strait Iranian sailors and the Iranian economy also depend on and calling it defense of "the nation." The people paying the price are the same people who've been paying for this regime's choices for decades.

They don't speak for Iran. They're the reason Iran is in this position.

Strait of Hormuz over the last 48 hours: there's no diplomatic resolution

The US and Iran appear content to play this game of hide-and-seek with vessel transits through the Oman lane. US continues to escort a convoy of tankers, and Iran keeps hitting them.

UAE reported that one of its tankers was hit, and rescue boats were seen moving towards the damaged tanker. @MerruX noted an oil spill from the hit.

In addition to the escalation we continue to see in the Oman lane, the Iranian Supreme National Security Council has published its demands for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

1. Never threaten Iran in any language, nor insult the sanctities of this nation.

2. Permanently end the war and aggression against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq.

3. Lift the naval blockade and withdraw its military forces (naval and air) from around Iran.

4. Pay full compensation, without deduction, for the damages of the two aggressive and imposed wars against Iran.

5. Lift the cruel and illegal sanctions against the Iranian nation.

6. Unconditionally release the frozen and stolen assets of the Iranian people.

If you are keeping track, they have now added Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq to their list for a permanent end to war and aggression.

Yikes.

By the way, this is the same National Security Council everyone said was "waiting" to approve the deal between Iran and Oman.

It does not bode well.

I guess we will see what Trump does next.
