Honestly, I don't think I've seen a Ryan Reynolds movie. I avoid comic book movies like the plague.

But I didn't know he was such a moron.

"Tremendous strife" in the 1980s? Is he confused with the late 60's and early 70's? Since WWII, the 80s were probably one of the least 'combative' decades in America.

Political tensions? Most of the 80's were the Reagan years, where he enjoyed popularity.

While Republicans and Democrats of course had their differences, it was nothing like we see today. They actually did things in Congress.

Consider the fact that Reagan had to deal with a House that was very Democrat for EVERY YEAR he was in office.

That's right, kiddos. Even though Reagan dominated electorally, he had divided government.

Yet, most of his core economic and agenda was getting through the house.

In the senate, while there was the Bork controversy in 1987, his other nominees got through (when we had a filibuster!)

Consider this nugget: Antonin Scalia, the champion of the conservatism on the Court. Someone the modern day Left hates, was confirmed by the senate by.

While Soviet aggression was certainly there in the early 80's (Able Archer ring a bell?), by the end of the 80's the Soviets were collapsing.

I wasn't around, but the 80's sound like a pretty nice time.

Ryan Reynolds says 80s nostalgia is just "paving over trauma with puppy dogs and ice cream." He’s right that the ’80s were brutal in many ways: Drunk driving, crack, the Cold War hanging over our heads. But he’s missing why we actually miss it.

We don’t miss the ’80s because it was safe or easy. We want the UNITY back. 106 million people watched the season finale of M*A*S*H at the same time. That doesn't happen anymore. We all argued over the exact same set of facts, not someone’s “personal truth.” And we remained friends at the end of the day. We had the humility to check our own biases instead of 30% of the country pretending to be "influencers" in an ego-driven feedback loop where every disagreement turns into total war.

That’s what we miss about the 80s.
