The hospitals in my experience had to create surge capacity, which was finding mattresses, space to hold them, & equipment to make them work for ICU. Staff for those beds will be deployed from nonICU floors, at the expense of those floors

-COVID admission volumes are rapidly rising.
-Outbreaks will become difficult to prevent.
