BREAKING: Dr Azeezat Amusat Threatens Legal Action Over Alleged Theft of Creative Work and False Attribution at Beauty in the Motherland Awards
Hollywood-based Nigerian beauty entrepreneur Dr Azeezat Abiola Amusat has threatened legal action against the organisers of Beauty in the Motherland and other named individuals, accusing them of using her creative work without permission and allegedly crediting it to another artist.
Amusat, popularly known as Abiola Beauty Concept, claim that imagery of her work was renamed and presented at the Beauty in the Motherland Awards held at Eko Hotel in Lagos, with the credit reportedly attributed to artist Daniel Obasi instead of her.
The individuals named in the dispute include Beauty in the Motherland founders Linda Edozien and Beatrice Obinna Eneh, Oswald of Waldwide Pictures, and Irene Adubauba of Irene Artistry.
At the heart of the allegations is a serious question of creative ownership: whether an artist’s work was used without authorisation and then credited to someone else. If established, such conduct could amount to a serious violation of the creator’s rights, depriving the original artist of recognition and misrepresenting who produced the work.
Amusat is demanding that the disputed attribution be withdrawn and that a public apology be issued. She insists that the work should be credited to its rightful creator.
The controversy has also intensified concerns about the recognition of Yoruba Gele styling and the proper acknowledgement of the cultural practitioners whose creativity has helped bring the tradition to wider audiences.
Dr. Azeezat Abiola Amusan widely known as the "Celebrity Mama of Los Angeles" and the Queen of Gèlè, is the woman who hand-tied the traditional Yoruba gèlè (headwrap) for American music superstar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

Exposing the 1966 Coup Lie: How Ibo Propagandists Fabricated the Awolowo Myth
by 'Busuyi Oris
Public historical discourse in Nigeria frequently contends with elaborate political fiction designed to rewrite the events of the First Republic. A persistent narrative propagated by Ibo commentators claims that the January 15, 1966 military coup d'état was organized to install Chief Obafemi Awolowo as Prime Minister. This assertion is entirely false. Historical data and archival evidence demonstrate that the preferred choice for prime ministerial succession after the January 1966 coup was actually Dr. K.O. Mbadiwe.
Propagandists manufacture this distortion about Chief Awolowo by deliberately transposing the 1964 political horse-trading between the National Convention of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC) and the Action Group (AG) onto the military objectives of the 1966 insurrection. The architects of this narrative rely on deliberate distortion to obscure the true power dynamics of the First Republic.
Understanding the broader political landscape requires examining the friction between the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) and the NCNC, which began in 1963 following the census crisis of that year. The political volatility of the era is also clearly demonstrated by the events of 1964, when Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, with the knowledge of Nnamdi Azikiwe, planned a coup that was later cancelled after service officers refused to obey Azikiwe's command. Ojukwu had asked other Nigerian officers who they would obey in the case of conflicting orders from the Prime Minister and the President. Subsequently, they were informed by the then General Officer Commanding, Sir Christopher Welby-Everard, based on advice from the Attorney-General, Justice Taslim Olawale Elias, that in the case of conflicting orders, the army must follow the Prime Minister or the Minister of Defence and not Azikiwe, the President.
What was clear was that the NPC and NCNC had had enough of their alliance, and both parties sought new political partners. Chief Awolowo had been imprisoned in 1963, leading to a split within the Action Group, where Samuel Akintola formed the United Progressive Party (UPP). The UPP subsequently evolved into the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP), which aligned with the Northern People’s Congress (NPC) to form the Nigerian National Alliance (NNA). The remaining faction of the Action Group allied with the NCNC to form the United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA). A central condition of this coalition was the release and pardon of Awolowo, alongside demands for his appointment as Prime Minister.
Michael Okpara firmly resisted demands to position Awolowo as Prime Minister because he harboured ambitions of becoming Prime Minister himself following the 1965 elections. Okpara initially countered by suggesting that Awolowo could be made Vice-President, a structural position that did not even exist within Nigeria's constitutional framework at the time. Following extensive negotiations between Okpara and Alhaji S. Adegbenro, Okpara abandoned his personal bid for the premiership, but introduced a new complication: President Nnamdi Azikiwe had begun nursing ambitions to assume the office of Prime Minister himself.
Okpara personally communicated this shift to Awolowo while he was incarcerated in Calabar prison. Awolowo concurred, leading to an agreement that Azikiwe would become Prime Minister while Awolowo would serve as Minister of Finance. This mirrored the exact power-sharing arrangement Awolowo had proposed in 1959, before Azikiwe chose to align with the North and assume the ceremonial role of Governor-General rather than face severe political fallout regarding financial controversies involving the Eastern Region, where £877,000 of public funds had been misappropriated.

I received an email from a Nigerian chef who was sacked by a restaurant in Abuja. They have owed her N700,000 since March 2026. Payment for February and March.
I have advised them to pay her by Friday, 16th October. If they do not, I will pay her myself. From that moment, the debt is no longer hers. It is mine. They become my debtor.
Pay the woman her money. It is N700,000. Your business is probably worth billions.
The next time I tweet about this, names will be called.
Few things excite me more than making big organisations do right by people they assume are weak. Trust me, an orgasm doesn’t come close. At least the feeling lasts longer. I am thirsty.
Dear Onyedika,
Thank you for your feedback. I do not come from a tribe. I am not from a tribe. I am from an ethnic nationality. Itsekiri, to be precise. A tribe connotes a primitive group of people who live a subsistence existence and have no indigenous civilisation. With that definition in mind, I do not think most of Nigeria's component units should describe themselves as a tribe. But that is my opinion, and you are free to characterise yourself however you wish.
On why I support President Bola Tinubu, here are my reasons.
I personally wrote Waziri Atiku Abubakar's speech, which he gave at Chatham House. No one else contributed to the draft. I wrote that speech from beginning to end. And everything I promised Nigerians in that speech, including fuel subsidy removal, Naira flotation, student loans, and devolution of power from the Federal Government, President Tinubu has fulfilled.
In addition, as a lover of education, I am IMPRESSED that in President Tinubu's three years, Nigerians have never had a nationwide ASUU strike. This is the first time such a situation has occurred in Nigeria's post-colonial history.
Under His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nigerians at both the Federal and Local Government levels, including military and paramilitary retirees, have been receiving their upgraded pensions as and when due.
Although his administration did not owe these legacy pension debts, President Bola Tinubu approved the issuance of a ₦758 billion Federal Government bond to settle long-standing pension liabilities and arrears under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
This enables them to live independent lives, where they can pay for their food and medicines without depending on their children.
Then, when you talk of infrastructure, the President has done wonders, and I particularly salute his Works Minister, Dave Umahi.
no other administration in the history of this nation has democratised road construction to the extent that the Tinubu government has done, simultaneously connecting the Southwest with the South-South via the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway being built for ₦15 trillion, linking the Northwest to the Southwest with the 1068-kilometre Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway costing ₦13 trillion, and bridging the gap between the Southeast and the entire North through the 465-kilometre Trans-Saharan Road being constructed at a price of an estimated $750 million.
Additionally, in 2022, Nigeria was Africa's largest importer of refined petroleum products. Today, we are the largest exporter of refined petroleum in West Africa.
Onyedika, I could go on and on, but these are some of the reasons I support the President.
Thanks again, and may God bless you.

Dear Nigerian churches, the loudness of your night activities should be limited to your premesis. People are trying to sleep, and prayers that inconveniences neigbouring houses is you constituting a nuisαnce.
Dear Adegbolahan,
Thank you for your feedback. Ifá Traditional Religion is the national religion of the Itsekiri people, and Eledumare is our Deity. The only difference is that we call the Deity Edumale, and we pronounce Ifá as Ifé.
My grandfather was chosen as Olu of Warri through Ifá divination because Itsekiris do not have primogeniture.
The practice is known as Bi'Ifé, which by interpretation means 'Ask Ifé', or simply to divine. We also bi'Ifé whenever people die, just as you have a coroner's inquest when people die in the West.
The Itsekiri and Benin Royal Family originate from Ifẹ. I did not say that Itsekiri and Benin people originate from Ifẹ. I said the Royal Family are originally from Ife. The origins of the Royal Family differ from those of the people.
The Itsekiri people come from a mix of Ijebu, Ilaje, and Igala origins. For example, the Itsekiri people of Omadina Island are purely Ijebu.
The oldest Royal Bronzes in Nigeria are from Ifẹ (900 years), Benin Bronzes (800 years), and Itsekiri Bronzes (500 years).
Please note that I did not say the oldest Bronzes. I said oldest Royal Bronzes. The Igbo-Ukwu bronzes are about two hundred years older.
Thanks again, and may God bless you.

Lagos is seriously clamping down on those producing fake and substandard products.
If you see, suspect, or have any information about fake or substandard products, call this number to report them.
