It is deeply unfortunate to see the conflict in the Middle East gradually shifting from purely military targets to economic and energy infrastructure. The expansion of the war into the oceans is also a matter of serious concern. When oil refineries, shipping routes & other key energy facilities begin to become targets the consequences go far beyond the battlefield.
With critical supply routes such as the Strait of hormuz facing potential disruptions & global oil prices already rising, the impact will strongly be felt across the world. Countries like Sri lanka which are already dealing with significant economic pressure and vulnerabilities in our power and energy supply will certainly bear a heavy burden.
If this situation continues to escalate it may not only create a humanitarian crisis in the region but could also trigger a wider global economic shock. Economies like ours could be pushed closer to another serious economic and energy crisis if the current government does not act properly and manage the situation effectively.
