In a bid to further fuel the rapidly evolving AI landscape in the country – @Google has shortlisted 20 AI-first startups for its startup accelerator in India. Let’s take a look 👇

The accelerator offers a 3-month equity-free programme where selected startups get mentorship and support across areas – such as artificial intelligence/machine learning, cloud, user experience, Android, web, product strategy and growth. It will also conduct workshops focused on product design, customer acquisition and leadership.

Interestingly, the adoption of artificial intelligence in India surpasses both the US and the global average. According to the 2022 IBM Global AI Adoption Index, India has an adoption rate of 57%, while the international and the U.S. rates stand at 25% and 34%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has been actively promoting the development of National AI frameworks, AI training modules and a GPU Cluster to facilitate the creation of AI applications.

The government firmly believes AI can propel India towards a $1 Tn digital economy by 2025-26. As a result, the country is progressively solidifying its position as a global partner in the AI technology space.

What a terrible take. Bhakti is a key emotion evoked by and informs many Carnatic songs, but not the only one and it’s a personal experience. To deny that Carnatic Music is an art form and to morally judge those who may not view it the way you do is just needless gatekeeping.

The volley of comments that come make me feel that this narrative that 'Karnata(ka) sangeetam' (classical carnatic music) has nothing to do with bhakti is deep rooted in our system. Thanks to our artists.

1. You learn Geetam, Swarajati, Varnam & Kritis of Vaggeyakaras. They led a life that was dedicated to their 'ishta devatas'. You release albums and render concerts on all of this. You make money. You earn fame.

2. Next, you say this is an art form. You start telling the world that we can talk about social issues and environmental topics. Then, you start singing compositions that are political in every sense.

3. Next, we will start saying, 'Tyagaraja never said, 'only if you believe in Rama or possess some love for him, you have to sing my compositions.' His 'Sangeeta Gyanamu Bhaktivina' is either mentioned as a concocted one or 'his take' composition.

4. My humble submission is:: To sing a kriti of Tyagaraja, I must respect him, his bhakti towards Rama, and pray that I gather at least 0.1% of his devotion someday. As I relish his 'Vandanamu', 'Vasudevayani', etc, the musical technicalities naturally percolate in me. I can NEVER sing a composition on a person who spoke ill of Rama or Tyagaraja because that is gross injustice. Some may call my view archaic, short-sighted, etc. To me, if I have chosen 'Shastriya Sangeetam' as my passion and/or profession (especially), I must strive to inculcate bhakti in me for that bhakti eventually gets translated into my renditions. Period.
