IF WE ENDED CHILD LABOR BECAUSE CHILDREN WERE MORE LIKELY TO BE INJURED AT WORK, AND THEN A CHILD WAS INJURED BECAUSE WE REINTRODUCED CHILD LABOR, THEN IT IS NOT AN ACCIDENT IT IS A POLICY DECISION
Wait till you find out the editor in chief of The Atlantic was a prison guard at a notorious Israeli detention camp, where he once watched another guard beat a Palestinian into a bloody pulp and then covered up for it. All of which was documented in a book he wrote.
the person currently before the judge was also there legal observing (maybe not in an official capacity, i can't totally tell?) but they are a current law student. judge is denying bond, says they are a threat to the community, property, and people.
by the way multiple people have raised issues of not having their medical needs met in jail and the judge is telling them to deal with the deputies, basically. the dekalb county jail, it should go without saying, is a wildly dangerous and understaffed hell hole
Georgia police Sunday arbitrarily arrested 35 citizens at a festival opposing the Cop City police training complex. Several were hit with bogus "domestic terrorism" charges in one of the worst abuses of US police power in decades.
The desperation increases as the protests grow.
When police attack legal observers and civil rights organizations, it's an attack on democracy itself. This should be alarming to everyone who cares about a free and open society.
As always, we are committed to providing bail assistance and access to legal representation for everyone arrested protesting. We are already coordinating a network of lawyers to respond. Please donate to help us continue this work. Solidarity means nobody faces repression alone!
Judge just granted a $5K bond for @splcenter attorney Thomas Jurgens. The prosecutor agreed to it because he said that right now they don’t have any evidence that shows he was engaged in the criminal activity. He was there as a legal observer. @wsbtv

@MrAndyNgo@NLGnews Your selective reporting on this is both unethical and disingenuous. If you had actually reported on the bond hearing, you would have told your followers that he was observing the protest on behalf of the National Lawyers Guild, not a participant.
The SPLC will continue to urge de-escalation of violence and police use of force against Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities — working in partnership to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements and advance the human rights of all people. #STOPCopCity
This is part of a months-long escalation of policing tactics against protesters and observers who oppose the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest to build a police training facility. #STOPCopCity
Law enforcement detained at least 35 demonstrators in Atlanta on Sunday, including an SPLC employee who was arrested while acting — and identifying — as a legal observer on behalf of @NLGnews#StopCopCity
