Christianity should sound like, “my beliefs compel me to continue growing in my love for others,” not “my beliefs give me the right to control the lives of others.”
I wish that the people I knew in ministry once, would take even a moment to get to know who I am now. There’s so much growth to be had but instead… hate.
A way too long thread on how churches exercise a quiet form of control by creating enmeshed systems of poorly differentiated people. Maybe this will help explain some of your experience.
If their homophobia is full of Bible verses, it’s still homophobia.
If their racism is full of Bible verses, it’s still racism.
If their misogyny is full of Bible verses, it’s still misogyny.
Don’t let them use scripture to justify their violence.
Bad theology kills.
deconstruction is just going from listening to relient k in youth group, to not listening to relient k for 10 years, to listening to relient k more than you ever before
When we were a part of a mega church for 25 yrs, we knew of countless people who had left suddenly. They were immediately discredited as troubled & wounded or angry & bitter. We were never given details but instructed to “pray for them.”Somehow we never imagined that would be us.
