~90% of mitochondrial proteins have at least one phosphosite.
Only ~1% of these sites have a reported function.
Is this regulation or noise?
We silenced 10 resident mitochondrial phosphatases, one at a time, to find out. New preprint 🧵👇
Is phosphorylation broadly relevant to mitochondrial protein function? In work led by @AJsmith231, we silenced 10 mito phosphatases, mapped dynamic sites, and revealed functional implications for import, catalysis, and morphology.

The result: Increased phosphorylation of cristae forming complexes in PGAM5 knockdown cells leads to denser cristae, more MIB assembly, fewer ATP synthase dimers, faster growth, and greater spare respiratory capacity.

Super excited to share our latest work on the native in-cell organization of the mitochondrial respiratory chain 🥳
Using cryo-electron tomography🔬, we show how the respiratory complexes (and other complexes) are organized inside native mitochondria!

Many thanks for all the very kind messages! My team and I are excited by all the ways this will empower our science, hopefully in collaboration with many of you.
I’m pleased to share our new work on the mitochondrial phosphatase PPTC7 led by @nieminm! Check out the important roles this protein plays in mitophagy and metabolic regulation.

Very (very!!) happy to share our latest publication, "PPTC7 maintains mitochondrial protein content by suppressing receptor-mediated mitophagy", out today in @NatureComms. 1/n https://t.co/zq4JjjyiC4
Happy to share our new mitochondrial proteome research review out today in @NatRevMCB led by @Zak_Bakes and @PatrickForny. The field has come a long way in the past 20 years, yet plenty of exciting new things to do!

I am happy to share (a bit late) our new review on coenzyme Q biology published recently in @TrendsBiochem . Congratulations to Dr. Rachel Guerra for leading the charge!

Good evening, gang!
I have once again compiled a thread of little bits from 2022 that I found funny, heartwarming, inspiring or just plain silly. It can be tough out there so sit back, relax and hopefully something in this thread might make you smile!
Let’s go! 💕
