#ICMR Organizes ICMR-SHINE Initiative – Science & Health Innovation for the Nextgen Explorers – a Nationwide Student Outreach Program

Around 13,000 students from grades 9–12, representing over 300 schools across 39 districts in 16 states and union territories, participated in a variety of interactive activities. Today, young minds across India stepped into the shoes of scientists through S.H.I.N.E. – Science, Health and Innovation for Nextgen Explorers.

Organised by the Department of Health Research (DHR) and ICMR on 7th–8th August 2025, this nationwide open day was held in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call for students to “spend one day as a scientist.”

Students from grades 9–12 got a hands-on glimpse into the world of biomedical science and public health at ICMR Institutes and DHR-Model Rural Health Research Units.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, DHR & DG-ICMR, called it “an invitation to scientific inquiry” — encouraging youth to question, observe, and dream of a future in research.
