This T-shirt changed my life!β₯οΈ
Imagine being a student who just failed the JEE exam, feeling like your dreams were crumbling.
Two years of Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Countless nights of preparation. And then... silence.
Somehow I cleared the state level examination and got admission into a Tier-3 Government college.
The first day of college - clueless about what to do ahead in life.
Most people around me were talking about on-campus placement goals, about the companies that visit our college. Mostly were mass recruiting companies(you know those i am talking about) of that time. I just didn't want to be part of a rat race where everyone wanted the same thing.
All of a sudden as a fresher batch welcome, few seniors came and announced about some random tech seminar happening that weekend. I went to have a chat with them, they seemed friendly. So why not, right?
One of them uttered a statement - "Open source mei lago, usi mei scope hai". This stuck with me for some reason. I spent the whole night of the first day of my college exploring what this "Open Source" was all about.
Next thing you know - I cracked the world's most desired software development program called the @Google Summer of Code βοΈ !
That too in my very first semester of college with one of the biggest open source organisation π
And since then, the sheer love towards building software and products that people need has been the fuel for me.
Open Source is a blessing in disguise if you do it right:
- You get to learn the full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)
- Git / VCS : which is the bread and butter for software devs
- Collaborate with senior engineers and get to learn industry standards from them
All this for free and instead you unlock future employment opportunities!
Feel free to connect or drop me a DM if you're looking to build projects in open source. Would love to help/collaborate!
