Awards only matter if they contain and confer prestige and the Grammys and Emmys have long squandered theirs by having too many categories and too many nominees. And some people seem to want the Oscars to follow the same path.

@yeselson@hecubian_devil Yeah he was polling much better before the NY Times story but there wasn't much evidence even then that he was doing particularly well with non-college voters.
@daveweigel Was there any hand wringing about democratic legitimacy when VA Republicans canceled their primary in 2021? The media gave Youngkin a tongue bath and all but praised Rs for not letting their crazy voters decide โ and it worked out well for them.
@DjsokeSpeaking I think those are actually equivalent to be honest. Mills would be an improvement now just because the bottom is falling out for Platner but she's still the second worst option. It was the same for Kamala.
@DjsokeSpeaking@charizardavis Platner dropping out would be old news by November and a state party choosing a candidate worked out well for VA Republicans in 2021.

@yeselson It'll be interesting to see if he suddenly rebounds in the polls when they all switch to LV models in the fall. For now he just needs to go hard on Collins is a vote for Trump (and hope she doesn't get the chance to cast a well-timed vote against Alito's replacement).
I had high hopes for Platner but yes this seems to be true. Hard to look at the data and not conclude that he's underperforming a normal Democrat and could cost us this seat.
@yeselson Yeah there's a miasma of scandal attached to him now. There's no chance anymore to make this race about left populist issues. It's just consolidating Dems, tying Collins to Trump and hoping for a Jay Jones repeat. If more stuff about him comes out, he's probably done.
@yeselson@daveweigel Replacing him is really the best option at this point but what leverage do Dems have to get him to drop out before 7/13? He's not the type to do that on his own (very few people are).
@yeselson It's all so disappointing and depressing. I don't see his favorables dramatically improving or him dropping out before 7/13 so we're probably stuck grinding this out to November.
@PeterHamby Either his moderate shifting is helping (like criticizing Biden's border policy) or most Texas voters haven't heard all the stuff he's said in the past and that will change as we get into the fall. Of course the latter also means Republicans will have to spend more in Texas.
