A new paper coauthored by Takumi Akeda and me is now out!
We show that the orientation of the pectoralis muscle in birds varies with flight style, suggesting a close link between pectoral girdle morphology and locomotor function.
This #FossilFriday I'm visiting the #Jurassic of France to share Proteroctopus ribeti, a #fossil#octopus - although it's been suggested it may be closely related to the Vampyromorpha, a basal group of #Cephalopoda, so not a true octopus.

Yesterday I learned that some Cecidomyiids exhibit larviform females. At first I saw the wriggling orange thing on its own under a rotting plank. When I went back, a male found her in the meantime and gave me some clarity on what I was looking at.
