It has been 67 years since she left Earth and even now, her story still feels heavy.
Laika wasn't just a dog in a rocket. She was trust, wrapped in fur - a gentle soul who never knew she was being sent to die for science.
Her real name was Kudrjavka, meaning "curly" in Russian. A stray found on Moscow's cold streets, chosen not for her strength, but for her calm. For her ability to survive what others couldn't. As if pain itself made her more "fit" for space.
On November 3, 1957, they placed her inside Sputnik 2 - a capsule with food, water, and padded walls... but no plan to bring her home.
Some say she lived for a few hours. Others say a few days. Either way, her last moments were spent alone, orbiting in silence - unaware of the applause she would never hear.
She circled Earth 2,570 times before her capsule burned up on re-entry, the following April.
Laika didn't choose to be a pioneer. She didn't ask to be a symbol of progress. She was simply a creature who trusted - and in doing so, became the first to bridge the distance between Earth and the stars.
Today, we remember her not with guilt, but with aratitude - for remindina humanitv that everv great journey begins with courage, even from the smallest of hearts.

Priluki… Three family members passed away together…
Oleksandr, Daria, and their little Kyrylo… A family that was meant to live, love, make plans, and rejoice in every single day. But on October 7, their lives were cut short by a Russian missile strike…
Oleksandr was only 32 years old.
Daria was just 23…
Their little son Kyrylo was only a year and a half old…
A year and a half… Tiny hands, a child's smile, first words and steps… How much more he was supposed to see, how many times he should have hugged his mom and dad. But fate took an entire lifetime away from him, and stole from his parents the future they could have lived together with their child.
On October 9, Priluki said its final goodbyes to the entire family. Now their names will remain in memory, and the pain of this loss is impossible to put into words…
Blessed memory to Oleksandr, Daria, and little Kyrylo. May they rest in peace, and may their relatives find the strength to survive this terrible loss.

Once again we are in the winter dilemma we usually face.
Eat or Heat.
In the last 3 months of fundraising we haven't raised enough for 2 months of food.
This months fundraising for fuel is also causing us sleepless nights.
We are a very small organisation, doing amazing and necessary work in Syria - and we still need your support.
The war ended, the problems with animal welfare didn't.
We are helping more animals now than at any time in our history.
We are neutering, vaccinating, advising, educating and performing 100s of surgeries every month - to save lives and improve conditions for all animals.
We do not have big reserves of food, or fuel or money. We only have you.
Please, support our efforts for a kinder world for the ones who have no chance.

October 10, 1938. #OTD Sigmund Osipovich Heisler, German national and post office worker in Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg), was executed at age 41.
Heisler was arrested on March 16, 1938, and so spent almost 7 months in NKVD custody before he was killed. He was sentenced for counterrevolutionary agitation and “connections with spies” (not to make light, but he was a postal worker, I can see the case being made in this era).
Sigmund Osipovich Heisler was killed and buried at the mass execution site in Yekaterinburg known as the 12th Kilometer of the Moscow Highway. 18,400 persons are known to have been murdered there, and the site is not believed to have been fully excavated.
Heisler was rehabilitated in 1957.
