I personally don’t know of a student of Indian politics in my generation who has not been touched—directly or indirectly—by @pbmehta’s intelligence, humanity, mentorship, and fundamental goodness. Others may choose overlook these traits. But we will continue to treasure them.
So we may point fingers at those who matter in the Ashoka episode but the larger rot resides more generally among ourselves as a society. We only want good shops selling branded degrees ; we just don't want centres of intellectual activity. (7/7)
