The most important component of writing clearly is simply to have high standards for clarity. Then if you write something unclear, you notice, and ask: what did I mean to say? You can just keep doing this over and over. And if you have high standards for clarity, you will.
PVA. It’s called passive vocabulary acquisition. You get it from reading so much that words just stick to you. You might not be able to define those words like a dictionary, but your brain somehow knows exactly where they fit. It’s one of the perks of being an avid reader.
The weird thing about reading so much as a child and gaining a huge vocabulary from that is I can't define a lot of the words I use, I just...know that they would fit correctly in a specific sentence? Does anyone else experience that?
A government is the “biggest gang,” with a local monopoly on violence.
It’s good at preventing and stopping things.
It’s bad at building and running things.
Its main job is law and order, and a government which fails at that, is a failed government.
Most highly successful people have an “unfair” advantage. Unfair in the sense that they have zero idea how the advantage was formed. They just found themselves in or around it and rolled with it unconsciously. The advantage includes where they lived and whom they interacted with.
Ayo’s point is very simple.
Coming from a background of wealth, power and influence makes a huge difference in how far you go in life.
It is easier to play tikitaka when you start a game 5 goals up. For many people, they start the game of life with two red cards and 7goals down.
Even before the defections, anyone who believed there was an opposition caucus in the Senate was either joking or being naive. It was clear from the outset that this particular Senate is the weakest we’ve ever had, aside from BAT’s political sagacity.
In the Senate, the opposition sits on the left hand side of the Senate President.Their seats are getting depleted. There has been defections in the past, but not at this frequency and magnitude.I hope before the year runs out the opposition space will not be empty. When empty, there will be no minority leader or caucus. That will not be good for democracy in the Parliament.
Just marry someone you love and respect, and if you’re lucky enough to have someone who loves and respects you too, you’ll realize these things are not supposed to be issues.
People don’t always get the life they plan for. It’s timing that often decides what you end up with—right place, right moment, or you miss it entirely. You can dream all you want, but the universe picks the plot twists.
Being "the plug" can be lucrative—connect a cake-baking friend with a party planner, and boom, cash flows your way. Call it a commission or whatever, just be the one who links people up.
In February 2018, the Nigerian Senate passed the Emergency Powers (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2018. The Act says, “The President may, with the approval of the National Assembly, suspend a State Governor or the Local Government Chairman in an emergency area during an emergency period.”
Octopuses have three hearts and blue blood. Two hearts pump blood to the gills, while the third pumps it to the rest of the body. When they swim, the heart that supplies the body stops beating, which is why they prefer crawling to conserve energy.
It’s almost the case that there’s no kind of life you’re looking for and won’t find in Nigeria! If you live anywhere in the world, you should pay a visit!
“… she didn’t feature in my thinking at all… I think she has appointed herself saviour of the western civilization. It’s a desperate search for relevance.”
Keir Starmer hits back at Kemi Badenoch.
Again, if people are easily distracted by fun or unimportant things, those in power see it as a sign that they can do whatever they want without dissent. I wouldn’t even be surprised if the people spreading tribalism are being paid to do it. It’s an easy distraction tactic here.
The tribalism arguments are filtering into the ears of so many people outside social media and they are using it to make life miserable for people who can’t or don’t use social media too well.
The Widows are suffering from it too.
You have ( once again ) left your collective oppressor and faced yourselves.
I don’t see why people are criticising this video. Every language has its own accent. Just as you appreciate someone speaking your local language with the right accent, foreigners feel the same when you speak theirs correctly. What’s the fuss about, exactly?
If you want to speak English, you should strive to speak it well, as a native speaker would. If you want to speak your native language, you should aim to speak it properly. There’s no such thing as “speaking like a Nigerian.”
How Okonjo Iweala stays dressing like a Nigerian in EVERY appearance while speaking like a Nigerian in EVERY appearance and commanding global respect, is the ultimate example for the Nigerian child.
