I'm not a pilot but I have to imagine that you have to be an absolute BADASS to skim the water in what is basically a flying tank, over and over all day long, and do it with the accuracy it takes to scoop up 1,000+ gallons of water and not have an accident.
My hat is off to these pilots!!
Delta Flight DL-2668 Evacuated in Atlanta Due to Engine Failure
On January 10th, 2025, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-300 (registration N589NW), operating flight DL-2668 from Atlanta, GA to Minneapolis, MN, experienced an engine failure during takeoff from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The crew rejected the takeoff at around 85 knots, and the aircraft safely came to a stop approximately 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) down runway 09L.
Following the incident, an evacuation was carried out via both the left and right slides due to a reported engine fire, though the exact cause remains unclear. Four passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation, with one being transported to the hospital. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 7:05 AM EST, was delayed significantly as a result of the emergency.
