AA Chief Vows to Seize Remaining Territories Before the end of 2027
AB News – April 11, 2026
The Commander-in-Chief of the Arakan Army (AA), Major General Twan Mrat Naing, has announced that all remaining territories in Arakan State will be fully captured during 2026 and 2027, as part of ongoing decisive military operations.
“We will achieve complete victory in the remaining decisive battles during 2026 and 2027. We are continuing our efforts in line with our convictions. If, by exception, we are unable to complete them within that period, we will continue advancing to the very end,” Major General Twan Mrat Naing said.
The statement was included in a message sent to mark the 17th anniversary of the Arakan Army on April 10, where it reiterated the goal of completing territorial control before 2027.
He also emphasized that efforts will continue relentlessly to secure strategic remaining areas and strengthen control over already liberated territories, while urging AA troops to maintain momentum in both military offensives and territorial consolidation.
A political analyst on Arakan affairs told AB News that the commander’s remarks are credible, noting his track record of translating words into action.
“Major General Twan Mrat Naing is someone who acts more than he speaks. He has consistently followed through on his commitments. AA troops are capable of implementing his vision, and the public continues to support them. That’s why many believe the remaining territories can be captured before the end of 2027,” the analyst said.
Currently, the Arakan Army controls 14 townships in Arakan State, along with the entire Paletwa region. Ongoing offensives are reportedly focused on the remaining key urban centers of Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung.
In addition to operations within Arakan, the AA has also been conducting joint attacks alongside allied resistance forces against Myanmar military positions in Ayeyarwady, Bago, and Magway regions.
Around 40 revolutionary groups, including allied organizations, also sent congratulatory messages to mark the 17th anniversary of the Arakan Army (AA), according to reports.

United League of Arakan / Arakan Army (ULA/AA)
Statement
September 19, 2025
The ultimate dream of the people of Arakan and the military objective of the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) is to ensure that the entire Arakan region is fully returned, without exception, into the hands of the people of Arakan. To this end, the ULA/AA has been exerting every effort. At the same time, within the territories we have taken control of, we are providing public services and security for the people, while also resisting the counteroffensives of the fascist military junta (Junta Commission) with daily defensive operations along the frontlines of Arakan.
Along the long Arakan–Bangladesh border and in some parts of Maungdaw District, the Arakan Army has not yet been able to provide round-the-clock and fully comprehensive security for civilians. Taking advantage of this, Islamist extremist groups such as ARSA and RSO, with bases inside Bangladesh, have been infiltrating into Maungdaw District of Arakan through routes across the Naf River and the Mayu mountain range.
These Islamist extremist groups that cross into Maungdaw District from the border have, in recent days, been ambushing, kidnapping, and killing non-Muslim local civilians who go into forests and hills for firewood, herbs, or trade in isolated areas. At the same time, these extremist groups are fabricating staged battles to make it appear as if they are in fierce clashes with the Arakan Army, using such propaganda to gain sympathy and support.
Moreover, they have been abducting and killing non-Muslim civilians encountered in forests and remote places, disguising themselves in Arakan Army uniforms, and then staging it as if AA’s members were captured during clashes. They record such fabrications and manipulate them on social media platforms in order to gain more support and assistance from Islamist extremist groups abroad.
Such terrorist operations by Islamist extremist ARSA and RSO members now pose a grave threat to the lives, homes, and properties of innocent civilians of Arakan living along the Arakan–Bangladesh border. This is therefore a time when heightened vigilance is required for public safety. For this reason, the civilians of Arakan living in the Arakan–Bangladesh border areas are strongly advised to avoid traveling alone or in very small groups in forests and remote areas. If there are unavoidable and important matters related to health or other urgent needs, civilians should first inform the nearest administrative or security units of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government before traveling, for safety reasons.
The ULA/AA will also intensify its efforts to strengthen security in Arakan and eliminate the cross-border incursions, terrorist killings, and violent activities carried out by extremist ARSA and RSO militants. Therefore, the ULA/AA calls upon the civilians of Arakan living in the Arakan–Bangladesh border regions to cooperate and participate actively with the ULA/AA.

Children in Rakhine Suffering Psychological Trauma from Junta’s Airstrikes
AB News – June 12, 2025
Chandara
Arakan Bay News has observed a growing number of children in Rakhine State suffering from psychological trauma due to relentless airstrikes by the Myanmar military junta. As a result, many children now exhibit fear responses—screaming, running, or hiding—whenever they hear loud noises such as aircraft, engines, cars, or motorcycles.
In some cases, children have been seen leaping out of bed and screaming when startled by loud motorbike sounds during sleep. Parents told Arakan Bay News they are deeply concerned that such trauma will affect their children’s brain development and long-term future.
A woman displaced in a neighboring village near Ponagyun said,
“We’ve been displaced for over a year. We live in a makeshift hut. Military aircraft fly overhead almost daily. When my son hears even a slightly loud sound, he runs to me screaming and trembling. I fear his brain will be permanently affected if this continues.”
As junta airstrikes continue almost daily in areas under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), the civilian death toll, including children and mothers, is steadily rising.
In particular, Ponagyun, Kyauktaw, Rathedaung, Thandwe, and Mrauk-U townships have seen repeated aerial attacks by the junta.
A mother in Kyauktaw said,
“My son is only six. He runs away whenever he hears the sound of vehicles or thunder, mistaking it for planes and bombs. Sometimes he wakes up from sleep in panic. I worry his trauma will only get worse.”
Parents living with their children are trying to console and care for them, but they themselves are gripped by fear. A man from Mrauk-U said,
“We parents are the closest to the kids, so we try to comfort them. But honestly, we’re terrified too. Every time we hear a ‘whoosh’ sound, we look up at the sky, fearing another strike.”
A 12-year-old girl from Kyauktaw township added,
“People say hiding in foxholes helps. But when you hear a jet, it’s often already too late—the bomb drops right after. Sometimes the bomb comes first, then the sound. There’s barely any chance to run.”
A mother in Mrauk-U township said,
“My son is school-aged now, but I dare not send him. This junta is not a legitimate government. No one knows when they’ll bomb again. They target schools. People may ask if it’s safe at home, but homes aren’t safe either. I just want to keep him close.”
These targeted airstrikes on civilian populations by the junta are not merely acts of war but deliberate human rights violations. They are destroying children’s mental health, their right to systematic development, and the very future of society.
Myanmar is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) since July 15, 1991. However, the junta continues to target schools, religious buildings, clinics, and civilian homes in Rakhine and other conflict zones, committing ongoing war crimes.
For instance, on May 12, the junta bombed a school in Ohtaintwin Village, Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, killing 20 students and 2 female teachers.
On January 8, around 1:00 AM, a bombing in Kyauk Ni Maw Village, Ramree Township killed 42 people, including children, injured over 50, and destroyed around 500 homes.
Since the military coup over four years ago, junta attacks across Myanmar have killed at least 734 children, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) report issued on March 1.
These escalating violations highlight the urgent need for international human rights organizations and agencies like UNICEF to intervene effectively to protect children in accordance with international law.
Statement on the Complete Capture of Border Guard Police Force No. 5 (BGP-5) Camp in Maungdaw Township by the Arakan Army (AA), and Total Control Over the Maungdaw Region
December 10, 2024
The Arakan Army (AA) has announced the complete capture of the Border Guard Police Force No. 5 (BGP-5) camp in Maungdaw Township, effectively gaining full control over the entire Maungdaw region.
Since November 13, 2023, the AA has been conducting military offensives to capture all enemy outposts within the Arakan region, including camps along the Bangladesh-Arakan border. Initial attacks targeted enemy camps in Maungdaw, such as "Kyinetale" and "Domepipe," as well as enemy positions in Rathedaung and Minbya townships. Over a period of more than a year, the AA successfully captured most enemy camps within the Arakan and Paletwa regions, achieving control over the majority of the towns in these areas.
The United League of Arakan / The Arakan Army remains steadfast in their mission to fully realize the aspirations of the Arakan people. The AA continues its relentless offensive operations, aiming to capture the remaining camps in Maungdaw, Ann, Taungup, and Gwa townships. Among these, Maungdaw was the last remaining stronghold, with the BGP-5 camp serving as the final obstacle to total control.
On December 8, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., the AA launched a decisive assault, successfully neutralizing the BGP-5 camp, which was heavily fortified and manned by over 700 personnel. The AA has since gained comprehensive control over the Maungdaw region, although search operations are ongoing for enemy personnel who fled the camp.
Since September 8, 2024, the BGP-5 camp was the only remaining enemy stronghold in the Maungdaw area, as all other camps in the region had already been captured by the AA. Skirmishes have occurred sporadically in Maungdaw due to attacks by extremist Islamist militant groups, such as the RSO, ARSA, and ARA, who were trained by the military junta.
The BGP-5 camp, located in the Myothugyi ward of Maungdaw Township, was a large and heavily fortified base. It was surrounded by two layers of barbed wire, trenches up to 20 feet wide, and sharp spikes. The camp had a rectangular layout, with over 20 large bunkers, more than 100 smaller bunkers, and over 30 reinforced structures. Natural barriers, such as a nearby stream, provided additional protection. During the assault, AA forces encountered over 1,000 M14 landmines planted by the junta, which were painstakingly cleared, often at the cost of lives and limbs.
The camp housed personnel from the junta's forces, as well as allied extremist Islamist militant groups (RSO, ARSA, ARA) trained by the military junta. Reinforcements from other camps also took refuge here and launched intense counterattacks with ground and aerial support.
The Arakan Army began its attack on the No. (5) Border Guard Police Force (NaKhaKha-5) about two months ago, having surrounded and laid siege to the station. The attack officially began on October 14, 2024, and lasted for approximately 55 days. During the attack on NaKhaKha-5, the Arakan Army fighters successfully carried out strategic attacks and operated in close coordination, maintaining balance and working together as a unified force.
According to the record and the list of captured remains, over 450 enemy soldiers were killed. Among those captured were senior officers including Colonel Thuraintun, the head of the Buthidaung Township's Military Operation Command-15 (SaKaKha-15), Lieutenant Colonel Wailin Aung, Chief Secretary of the SaKaKha, and several other military officials, along with numerous soldiers and members of armed groups such as the RSO, ARSA, ARA, and others trained by the terrorist military councils. These groups included radical Islamist militants and gunmen who were captured as prisoners. Additionally, weapons and military equipment were seized.
During the intense and final assault on NaKhaKha-5, the Arakan Army fighters showed remarkable bravery. The fallen Arakan soldiers who gave their lives and sacrificed their bodies are honored and respected for their contributions.

**Interview with the father from Myanmar Anglican Association (Buthidaung) On the Burning Down of His Church by ARASA and Life-Threatening Situations He Had Faced**
Aug 7, 2024
Q: Did you see the Muslim people looting from the Rakhine houses around your Church?
A: During violence attack we stayed inside our church as it is a religious site and due to a religious leader, I did not assume that the Muslims would do such a violence attack. We stayed in the church. Some Rakhine families adjacent to our church requested me to keep eyes on their houses. We, husband and wife splashed water on the plants in their houses once a week. Muslims people asked us why we entered their houses and asked us to get out from there. Rakhine houses which were requested of us to keep eyes on them were looted my Muslims. I could see everything. There is a house belonging to teacher Ni Min Twan, who was also given me a task to look after. On one day, along with my friends, I went to see that house to check if the house was destroyed or the condition of the house. A colleague of teacher Ni Min Twan stayed back there. At that time, there was a mobile network. After we entered his house, we found inside the house was ransacked. We did not know that there were some Muslims hiding inside the house when we stepped in. After that, they attempted to stab us from our back. Sensing it, we requested them not to harm us. We told them we would do nothing against them and then they pulled back their machete and took away all the things from the house. It happened directly before our eyes. We could do nothing but watch helplessly. We were scared to make enmity and scared to get stabbed. Saying let us leave, we sneakily got out. We had experienced such situation.
Q: Is that correct, you were put into a dug grave to kill you?
A: Yes, it is correct. I showed them my ID card. They did not say if they could read. They only kept saying “You Rakhine people” "You Rakhine people”. They know me and my father-in-law too. Then they hit me with a rifle button. I fell down into the grave in a state of half consciousness. I was asked where I was then. I replied that I think it is in the grave. They told me to bury me alive in the grave. I told them to go ahead, saying that I am not a criminal. I pray to the God, oh my God, I am carrying your duty. I am not an informer as per their allegation. In fact, I am coming here to find 2 missing people. I confessed that if they want to kill me then it would happen by your wish, my God. At that time, they took me out from the grave. Then they asked me to tell them the truth and not to kill me. When I saw a BGP personnel with a walkie talkie I requested him “Sir please save us” and asked him to report to the higher authority that we were coming here to find the missing people that I reported to. 5 minutes later I was taken from the grave, a voice came through the walkie talkie. The voice was “these people are from Gandari village, they come to find missing people, they all are good people, please set them free”. We were released. We were brutally tortured for 2 or 3 hours. After reaching home I could not get up at all. It was on 11 May. Two people went missing on 10 May.
