We are excited to offer SMMILE this summer for Hawaii high school students! Click on the post below to apply/read more! 🦭🐋🐬
A huge mahalo to our sponsors! @uhmanoa @HawaiiSeaGrant @HawaiianAir @marinesanctuary

Last but not least, our next spotlight is Brijonnay Madrigal!🌟
Bri is a PhD candidate and her work is focused on trying understand the acoustic behavior and effects of noise on false killer whales and pilot whales!

How can echolocating toothed whales make 500 clicks/second with air at 1000 m depth where air volume is compressed to <1%? With the same nasal sound source how do they produce powerful high frequency clicks for echolocation & softer, low frequency calls for communication?
Jack was a new grad student w/ @akstimp@MLMLmarinesci when I met him. Now he’s a trusted acoustic analyst in high demand & always on a boat 🐋 . This great @OlympicCoast web story explains how he got here & of course more about humpback song in the PNW https://t.co/Oz3mhD1fSh
Amazing results from our satellite telemetry project with Southern right whales in Argentina. Electra, a whale seen with a calf at the time of tagging, is back home after 6 months. It’s the first time we record a mom’s full migratory cycle. And her track looks like a whale 😊!
We are advancing the Bioacoustics Stack Exchange proposal!!! Now it's time to COMMIT. Next, we have to prove we have community to keep it alive #ESOMM2022 Will you join us?
Please click 'Commit' on the following link: https://t.co/Fy5pDFBlpb
Please join the Bioacoustics Stack Exchange. Our current goal is to increase the number of questions with at least 10 votes.
Please vote for questions you think are relevant to our community. No need to worry about answers yet :-)
We are devastated about the passing of SMRU legend Dr Bernie McConnell. He had been with SMRU 40 years and served as both deputy director and head of @SMRU_Instrument. He was life and soul of every meeting and party, and will be hugely missed. Our thoughts are with his loved ones
Thank you organizers! You all did a wonderful job and the hard work and thought you put into all aspects of the conference really showed. We had a great time! #BLS7Hawaii
As the sun set's here in #hawaii🌴, we want to say #mahalo for attending #BLS7Hawaii! We have enjoyed a full week of excellent talks, posters and beach parties! We hope to see you all soon (hopefully in person), at the next @biologging conference!
I really enjoyed the last #BLS7Hawaii plenary by @Elasmo_Gal. Important issues for all of us. Thx 2 conf organizers for thinking about this, spotlighting the early career and underrepresented to evolve the field & move our science forward! It has been a great, & refreshing, week!
There is a new short field trip in our spatial chat platform. Learn about The Snail Lab, the plight of Hawaii’s endemic snails and the sad tail of George, the loneliest snail. #bls7hawaii
Excellent plenary @DrLucyHawkes at #BLS7Hawaii ! What a great way to kick off the week - looking forward to seeing everyone and more #biologging science inspiration!
Hello bio-loggers! Excited about #bls7hawaii next week & a digital Sci comm enthusiast keen to join the vibrant BLS comms team?? Then we are looking for you! 😀👏🏼 Pls DM us with your email address today! 📸 @icetempete

Are you using a hidden Markov model (#HMM) for fish geolocation? Join @JNielsenKMR and colleagues next week at #BLS7#GCW to discuss nitty gritty aspects of working with HMMs. Learn from other researchers and share insights from your work. DM to sign up or learn more. @BLS7hawaii
Nancy Foster Scholar Brijonnay Madrigal is a PhD student studying marine mammal acoustics.
Read the story of her journey as a Mexican American woman in a STEM field, and her work throughout the National Marine Sanctuary System.

Do you have a #biologging hero? This is the time to raise your voice! Four days left to nominate these luminaries for the #IBioLS Outstanding Achievement Award. Check your email for links to nomination forms, due Sept 5. Winning researchers announced at @Bls7hawaii !
Check out the #BLS7Hawaii schedule at a glance! Multiple time zones are included for easy reference. We are excited for a full week of awesome talks, plenary speakers and virtual socials! #biologging#VirtualConference#hawaii#science
Killer whales occur in the Arctic but few data exist regarding the ecotypes present. These researchers used a passive acoustics recorder in the southeastern Chukchi Sea to identify which ecotypes were present. https://t.co/ju0DYNafVm
