I think this is another byproduct of the hero's journey as the prevailing storytelling paradigm—it means that we over-index on what we as the protagonist control, and we under-index on fortune and coincidence

No matter one's views of Louis Farrakhan, nearly 1m black men came to DC in 95 and there was no violence. Today, maybe 50,000 white folk came to town and attempted a coup. If Farrakhan had said ANYTHING to those men like what Trump did to his mob, he'd have been under the jail.
