will mix in some stuff i wish i knew with some general pointers:
• art matters and if your pfp doesn’t cover all audience ranges (from schizos, to nerds, to memers, to wholesome normie ppl you’ve got a serious problem)
• art needs to be memetic or it will not spread and growth will be handicapped
• you need someone with strong artistic taste on the team, you are DOA without one
• culture dictates everything and the guiding principles of that culture are often derived from the art
• gatekeep vultures and narcissists
• be firm with holders if you need to be, some will try to take a mile for every inch you give them
• never ever put things up for a community vote, at most privately poll for sentiment
• people don’t want full transparency, it is seen as weakness (even if holders claim it isn’t), people want strength and partial opaqueness is a pre-requisite to that strength
• every nft ecosystem should be designed with an erc20 in mind
• do not waste your erc20 TGE(s) either—it can simultaneously be your silver bullet and your magnum opus
• do not launch a token until you’ve had a good 6+ months of community building and constant growth
• do not give off the impression that the NFT is solely an investment vehicle for the erc20 token if you want to create a legacy (legacy is created through people identifying with a set of ideals and actions, an NFT is the ultimate identity)
• don’t just build a product, build an ecosystem
• if you think of a fun idea don’t shelve it just ship it; small QoL additions disproportionally move the needle for nft collections and increase conviction while allowing a gradual build out of said ‘ecosystem’
• bespoke platforms that aggregate social, content, content creation, etc, are all great tasks to dev out initially and fortify your base set of holders
• don’t have a specific magnum opus (contradicts my erc20 point but ykwim) development should feel like a never ending stream
• don’t bloat your team, keep it extremely lean and contract out the things you need
• don’t hire contractors from crypto, most are entitled and want bloated sums of cash from work you can get much cheaper elsewhere
• only full time hire generalists that can excel in any sector that you drop them in and execute autonomously
• the moment you see any form of ‘9-5’ mindset forming in someone you’re working with, iron that out, if that doesn’t work, boot them asap
• culture rot is the greatest enemy of any company, all it takes is one or two bad apples to slow everyone down, it’s extremely contagious
• abuse AI
• take risks more often and think less about the theoretical regrets unless they have the potential to significantly harm your foundation of holders
• creating and releasing things you’d personally find cool can never result in a bad outcome
