People rarely open issues saying everything worked perfectly!
As a maintainer it can get oppressive dealing with mainly negative feedback day after day.
It is important to remember for every person with an issue many more are likely using your software without any problems!
The first contribution to a project is rarely very helpful.
Often it takes _more_ time to review and merge then to do the change yourself.
But the second, third, fourth... contributions are extremely beneficial!
Do everything you can to encourage second contributions!
How to ‘come up with ideas’ in either research or start-up? A wise person once said:
“You don’t ‘come up’ with ideas. You keep a mental account of available tools, datasets, and questions. When you see a new tool/data, you immediately realize what question can now be answered.“
One of the most valuable roles you can play on a team is to notice when this is happening, propose a responsibility framework, and eagerly charge forward with that framework unless someone proposes a better alternative.
