Loved (far too briefly!) wearing hard hats and really enjoyed spending time with @MLW_Programme seeing the excellent research being conducted and engaging with the exciting cohort of early career researchers. Thank you for hosting us so generously.
Today Friday 22 March 2024, the @wellcometrust visitors toured the CREATOR Building which is still under construction at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme's premises in Blantyre as part of their ongoing visit.
Here are some pictures of the delegation during the tour.
Brilliant to be in Brussels today and tomorrow for such an exciting conference on climate and health - defining the research agenda for urgent action. #EUclimateandhealth
It’s been a privilege to be part of discussions as this conference has developed. If you are following, do watch out for two sessions Wellcome is co-leading on the global perspective of climate change and how health research can support better & fairer climate policy worldwide.
When you look at the toll of recent heatwaves in the UK, it’s clear that measures to protect people from rising heat are genuinely a matter of life and death. We need a whole-of-government approach to address this issue and this report provides a strong starting point.
Very important report today from @CommonsEAC. Carrying on as we are with inadequate preparation, inadequate insulation and inadequate cooling is a recipe for increasing healthcare costs and fatalities. https://t.co/4CJrphLQMm
☀🌡2023 was the hottest year ever recorded globally.
The UK must prioritise passive cooling, nature-based solutions & improving the thermal comfort of homes.

Now that the FIRST EVER health day at @COP28_UAE is over, I just wanted to say I’ve been amazed by the way the climate and health communities have come together to make it such a success.
@wellcometrust we’ve committed to £100mn next year alone on climate and health research — and the advocacy to make sure that research leads to real-world change.
Join @wellcometrust@COP28_UAE for what will be a brilliant panel debate chaired by @JuliaGillard: Navigating politics, lessons from the front line. Sunday 3rd December 2023; 13:30 in the WHO Health Pavilion (B7, 89). See you there!
Delighted to be in beautiful Dubai for @COP28_UAE. The human cost of climate change is increasingly front and centre of debate. The climate crisis is a health crisis.
I’m passionate about bringing attention to the often-neglected relationship between climate & health. Working together on real solutions is vital to protect the health of communities across the world.

My very deepest condolences - your father was a truly great man and one who chose to share his greatness with us all. Not just through his scientific work but also through his humanity, gentleness and generosity. @MadhuraFAS@nityarao63@doctorsoumya
My sisters & I have been overwhelmed with the messages of love, sympathy & support on the passing of our father #MSSwaminathan. While it’s a deep personal loss for us, we realize he belonged to the world & are thankful to all who have comforted us. @MadhuraFAS@nityarao63
The Climate and Health strategy @wellcometrust is dedicated to making the impacts of climate change on health visible, and driving action to protect lives. Putting health at the heart of climate change action.
Excellent to see a commitment in the Nairobi Declaration to protect lives. We can measure climate change in degrees C and sea-level rise, but we will most acutely feel its effects in the risks to our health and survival.
H.E President William Ruto sends his appreciation and gratitude to all who made the historic Africa Climate Summit such a resounding success. He called the summit the beginning of 'a future ripe with potential, driven by global partnerships, committed to African prosperity, inclusive growth, and a livable planet for all'. Indeed it was and many thanks to everyone who helped deliver the incredible outcome."The African Leaders Nairobi Declaration on Climate Change and Call to Action" https://t.co/gJNQOjSqbg the commitments by the continent and calls to action for Development Partners and all.
