1. On the anniversary of 9-11, the most well-researched disaster of all time (at least until Covid), here is a thread of some of the readings I recommend on public behaviour during the event (mostly free access) #September11th
I’ve been studying social identities for the past 20 years. I thought I would dispel some myths about identity.
Everyone contains multiple identities. We contain multitudes!
You can be Black and Indian, and American, and a Woman, and a Californian, and a wife and a mother, and many, many more.
We all contain multitudes. This exists in every culture on earth and it makes humanity vibrant and beautiful. It allows us to make all kinds of connections with strangers.
It generates cooperation, altruism, and a sense of shared purpose.
You don’t have to choose a single identity. In fact, people who obsess over a single identity are often less healthy and prone to essentialism and discrimination.
In contrast, people who have multiple identities are connected to many communities. They are often healthier and happier.
Here is a quote from our book 📕 on identity @PowerOfUsBook
Please share with anyone who doesn’t understand how identity works.
New blog highlighting the many actors in academia that benefit from false positive findings: individual careers, for-profit journals, media, & unis.
Add publication bias, and you get many zombie theories & difficulties correcting the scientific record.

Homogenous groups are associated with subjective well-being (due to perceived social cohesion) but too much similarity is linked to lower social cohesion & lower well-being.
