@FixingEducation So many. Any version of Kai, any name ending in -den, Mason, Troy, Grace/Gracie, Alfie (I teach SO many Alfie’s), Lily/Amelia/Daisy (every other girl named one of these)…I could go on. The list of acceptable names now is very short 😂
@maytrakand This was the most incredible reading experience. Literally a whole afternoon immersed in it, glued to the book. Felt like I was waking up from an intense dream when I finished the chapter!! I think I read half of MoL in one incredible day.
@laurischattin My partner and I have technically always lived together haha. We met by both renting rooms in the same share house, and then moved to a rental house together 7 months later. Bought our own home after 2 years and still going strong after 4 years. No regrets about any of it!
@DavidLarkin85@Mouhssin_Ismail I had a Geography teacher interview where I was rejected partially because the student panel thought I was ‘not excited about my subject’. All I’d said was that I was also confident with academic writing/SPaG support when I was asked what I was good at besides geography 🤦🏻♀️

13 Life of Brian Classic Moments - A THREAD
Brian could well be the funniest movie ever made, and one clip alone won't do it justice. So dive into this thread and find out why Brian was a very naughty boy. You splitter!

Nearly finished book #2 and wrote a really important scene this morning that has lived in my brain for years. It’s quite emotional bringing something to life that you’ve quietly built up in your mind, and realising it at last. A few chapters to go now…
S3 of the #wheeloftime is actually incredible. Just finished Ep 4 and am stunned at the writing, acting, cinematography. Josha did an amazing job. Best thing I’ve watched for a LONG time!!! If you haven’t started it yet, I can’t recommend it enough
@Wisteraverse I’m now waiting for the Romantasy fever to die down before I try another round of queries for my fantasy novel! It’s exactly that, a fantasy with a slow romance subplot, and no agents are interested right now.
@MelJRey Yeah, I have this problem constantly when I’m looking for agents!! Nobody seems to want high/epic fantasy even if they list it as a genre in their profile, and in the fine print they’ll say they only want urban or grounded fantasy. So frustrating as a querying author.
@dartheva_ Loved Priory. Finished the Poppy War but didn’t really enjoy it enough to read any more in the series. Have heard really mixed things about Babel so not sure if I’m keen to try it!
@BequetteEmily I get this, but I don’t feel comfortable stripping out more than 50k from my MS when I’m confident (after many beta readers) that the scenes/depth is necessary and the pace is good. I’d feel like I was sending a crappy version and be even less likely to get a full request.
It’s adult fantasy, 150k, first in a planned trilogy. I realise all these things are not in my favour right now, but I am confident the letter and pages are good, so I was still hoping my book had a chance. Not willing to cut the word count down (2/3)
@sanchez_m_m I get frustrated if there’s no map in totally new fantasy worlds, as I have nothing to refer to as places are introduced/travelled to. You don’t memorise maps, you look at them when you need them. Same with family trees etc
But that’s not everyone’s jam and that’s ok! ☺️
@MidnightRose838 I never use people’s names while I’m in a conversation - only if I am calling for them, and once we start talking names just aren’t used. Nobody else I speak to on a regular basis uses names often either. Maybe it’s a culture/generational thing?
@TabitaSurge There’s not ‘no marking’ but you are never expected to ‘mark their books’ - just formal assessments like tests or assignments. I’ve taught in both countries and after 5 yrs in UK I still don’t see the point in book marking 🤷🏻♀️
No hate to op or anything but I find the rise of shorter books to be the most annoying thing for storytelling because now whenever I pick up a book I feel like I missed history class on the setting and the characters get a devolpment that's faster than lighting.
@missmulrooney My parents reminded me constantly how much my braces cost and said if I damaged them or lost the retainers/didn’t wear them properly, they’d take the replacement money out of my savings. Harsh but fair 🤷🏻♀️ no breaks and still have straight teeth and same retainer 17 yrs later.
