Rivian R2 Performance just earned a 105 MPGe combined EPA rating, identical to the Tesla Model Y Performance, despite weighing nearly 800 pounds more with a far boxier body.

It also beats Tesla on range at 330 miles versus 306, which is not the matchup most people expected from a more utilitarian SUV.
