@MacaesBruno Exactly. If we could see that he couldn’t cut it anymore, what do you think the players who trained and played with him thought? GR scores/assists every 37 min in WC games, yet can’t get a game. I think we underestimate then psychological impact that has over time on the squad
@MacaesBruno Yes, it was all insane. I think the best explanation is the simple one. It is the consequence of the commitment to Ronaldo and the collective delusion that it requires. Work backwards from that, and the last four years make sense, including the lack of system and identity
@MacaesBruno Sober up indeed! Excellent piece, I fear however the obsession with the orange man means that for the most part, EU leaders will spend three years essentially clinging on to notion they just need to ride it out. What do you think it means for the populist parties across Europe?
@KasraAarabi I’m well and hope you are too. I know what you focus on and find your work valuable and interesting. I just don’t think everything needs to be trapped in the far left/right prism, it’s utterly depressing. If that says something about me then I am glad! All the best
In one country American aid is the equivalent of almost 350% of government health spending. These are the places most vulnerable to Donald Trump’s cuts https://t.co/iuCHgFtt6i
Angers me to write this letter again. Following previous cuts, @CIFFchild managed to plug some gaps with peers, but hole created by #UK & #US#aid#cuts is enormous. Countries need more time to plan aid exit. #Debt#crisis makes this nigh impossible. People suffer greatly.
I had to sign this letter to the UK PM on the aid cuts.
National Security is a public good: people rightly expect the state to provide it.
How to fund it is a key public finance decision.
Sensible public financial management is all about trade-offs.
This was the wrong one.
Our letter to the Prime Minister expressing deep concern regarding his decision to cut ODA. Cutting ODA to raise defence spending is a false economy. The aid budget is an important instrument for long-term stability and economic partnership. We hope the government will reconsider
I think about this book almost every day at the moment and wonder how much would have been different if progressives had heeded some of the early warning signs. @NickCohen4@JamieJBartlett
For those of us struggling with the holiday blues, Bob Dylan shares some thoughts on how to beat them.

IDA is the most critical source of climate and development finance for the world’s poorest and most climate-vulnerable countries. With many countries facing spiralling debt costs, its combination of grants and highly concessional financing is more needed than ever. #IDA21
