My blood is boiling. They stole this girl’s big moment, both for her and her family. If this had happened to one of my children, I would have rushed the stage.
I don’t have concrete data to back this up, but I think the quality of our conversation re polarizing issues would improve greatly if we simply asked,
When you say _________ what do you mean?
But that requires a curiosity that is truly difficult for people stuck in our ways.
I hope my colleagues in Washington are breathing in the air and finally waking up to the reality that if we don’t act boldly to address climate change we won’t be leaving much of a planet for future generations.
i’m so proud of the Black girls w/anxiety who are showing up, putting themselves out here, going places alone & making new connections despite what our brains tries to tell us.

If you’re a writer, it’s likely safe to say you value words. It’s my personal opinion that we should also value care, responsibility, & precision, especially when writing about our communities & the world. Research helps honor your ideas & ancestors by getting the details right.
If you’re going to use your experiences to make critiques about larger social problems, research is your friend! We are absolutely experts on our personal experiences, but unless we STUDY, we are not experts on power dynamics and the mechanisms of social injustice.
My hot take is that most of us have not adequately processed the trauma of the pandemic. And our sprawling, unprocessed trauma chews away at our brains in myriad ways that make us anxious about why we can’t seem to live our lives as instinctively or as joyously as we did in 2019.
