Here in Hampstead, nursery schools are sprinkled throughout the neighborhood, often in old houses like these. Having child care nearby improves walkability and reduces stress on parents.
@carfreepvd Far be it from me to tell a constituent they're wrong! I think the other City person you're talking about was probably @timhshea who is completely excellent in these settings.
This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes break traffic laws while riding, yet 66% of people do so when driving. And if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid https://t.co/fP5NYJOkXy
Just signed up for this! So excited that Providence is offering folks a choice in where our electricity comes from! I chose 100% renewable; you can choose the mix that works for you.

@MoldyBasil @AmericanFietser @riesemuller Best side benefit of a bakfiets in Providence: all the people rolling down their car windows & calling out to you from the sidewalk to tell you how much they love it. Much more positive feedback from strangers than a normal-looking bike.
RT to feature that graph
But also, I think a major oversight that is underappreciated is that "improvements in travel speed" create greater dangers due to physics.
We know at 40 mph a person hit by a car has a <50% of surviving and we just kind of ignore it
A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, & most of the energy that does, moves the car, not people.
Sound efficient?

Take this chart and consider that transit is 20-70x safer than driving, and you’ll understand a key reason Americans are 2-5x more likely to die in a crash than Europeans.
This infographic says a small car at 16 mph has the same kinetic energy as a cyclist at 63 mph. When a crash occurs energy plays a large role in the severity of the crash.
Cars are high energy, with high potential harm, that's why a #SafeSystem focuses on reducing that energy
To underline this—every ad agency in the world knows norming something (in this case, EV concerns) is a more powerful driver of behavior than any other version of persuasion when used across large populations (like, say, a Super Bowl ad).
They 💯% knew what they were doing.
