Minimum wage in 2005 was £5.05 and a Freddo was 10p. Meaning that one hour of work got you 50 Freddos.
Fast forward to 2025, minimum wage is £12.21 and a Freddo is 35p. Now one hour of work will only get you 34 of them.
That's a 142% rise in pay but a 250% rise in frog shaped chocolate bars.
If wages had kept up with the price Freddos, the minimum wage would be £17.50 an hour.
The economy’s in shambles and yes I’m measuring it in chocolate frogs. But this post is about more than that. Too many people are working full time and struggling to survive because absolutely everything is increasing faster than wages.
Something needs to change.
5 (Realistic) Policy Suggestions:
1. Bring in a tiny 2% wealth tax (= £24bn)
2. Invest that in NHS, Schools and Rewilding
3. And avoid welfare cuts for the worst off
4. Get growth via investing in green economy (grew 10% last year)
5. End arms sales to Israel - because it’s immoral.
What did I miss?
We were meant to give a speech at the protest today but obviously won't be anymore. Here it is. It's nothing radical as you can see.
Republicanism isn't radical.
It’s not about being pro or anti monarchy it’s about our fundamental right to protest. How anyone in the Met can think this is right is beyond me. They should be ashamed of themselves today.
Police arrest peaceful anti-monarchy protesters & have erected giant barriers to osbcure pro-republic banners. Right to freely protest suppressed. Shame!
The most uncomplicated illustration of why doctors need their pay to be raised in line with what it should have been over the years. #JuniorDoctorsStrike#PayRestoration
@Barnett_College Whoever wrote this article has clearly misremembered the Indy franchise. So many mistakes and why do we need old characters popping up anyway. What we need a belting good story.
@InspGadgetBlogs How did they clear her of murder? Especially after she’d caused injury to him before. What an evil woman. 15 years seems paltry for such a crime against a little child.
@SPCK111 @GAlpha1968 The general public think it’s a promotion. They’re amazed when I tell them that even though we’re the brightest and most skilled officers we actually take a pay cut!
@DonnaDlm71 I don’t have faith in it. It is a terrible system as is criminal justice as a whole. It’s just that it’s not specific to this case. Sentencing for sexual offences is far too lenient generally.
