@ReemAmirIbrahim I agree but perhaps an increase in openly distasteful language leads to people already predisposed to violence to feel like they can act on it? How else would you explain an increase in targeted anti-Semitic attacks?
@PeterMcCormack@ZackPolanski@grok if the UK government could tax 100% of UK billionaire's wealth (big if I know), how long would that pay for total government spending?
@Nolongerscot@sirmatthew1976@londonHenryGB Good powers of persuasion ๐ Ok you do your homework on why forcing people to do things against their will is bad...so now we both have homework, isn't that fun.
@Nolongerscot@sirmatthew1976@londonHenryGB But I'm asking you to explain it. If you understand it so well, how do you justify that amount being taken by force? Also, no I'm not on anywhere near as high a salary as you think (most above average earners pay about 50% of their money to the state) and no, this is my home.
@Nolongerscot@sirmatthew1976@londonHenryGB I don't understand. Can you explain it to me, in terms that make sense, why I am forced (on pain of imprisonment) to give 60%+ of my money to other people or services that I don't want or need?
@londonHenryGB@2147mill Don't want to ruin your day but does your 71% include council tax, stamp duty, fuel duty, VAT etc? When most HENRYs break down what they keep vs what the gov gets it's usually worse than they think :/
@PeterMcCormack@PeterMcCormack there's a solid problem here. Do you know any solutions for people who want their kids to have a decent education (learning actual skills, high agency etc)? What are the options?
@dalkeithfiddler@PeterMcCormack@ZackPolanski I think the idea that cutting spending shrinks the economy feels like quite a big assumption. The logic in my head is: cut spending -> reduce my taxes -> I spend my money with great businesses which = growth. Does that not work?
@dalkeithfiddler@PeterMcCormack@ZackPolanski 9% of all government spending (just to cover the debt interest) feels like it does have an effect on the day to day wouldn't you say? I could do with 9% less taxes (and the rest).
