New #TREE paper motivated by my brilliant colleague, Ruth Oliver @BrenUCSB! @Trends_Ecol_Evo
"Animal tracking data provide unprecedented detail about how and why populations change"

That feeling when you vote for the first female president ๐ฅน Canโt wait to see what you do for our climate and our country @KamalaHarris! ๐ #IVotedEarly
Very proud of this work and the wonderful people involved!
We introduce the idea of an isotope-exchange 'clock' that estimates the in situ residence time of acetate via Orbitrap MS and identify an active carbon cycle in the continental subsurface.

I love to see so many new teaching faculty jobs opening up at @ucsantabarbara! ๐
Another great opportunity at the intersection of #datascience and the environment. Apply by November 22. https://t.co/bkvOWUmcpP
Job alert! @BrenUCSB is hiring an environmental economist & data scientist ๐ต ๐๐

Job alert! ๐จ Looks like a great position opening up at
@UCRiverside to be an assistant teaching faculty in environmental science (Happy to chat more or share materials with anyone interested in teaching faculty roles) https://t.co/BLV7kJSpM7
@sawsharkman Definitely! Acts almost like a mini outline. Although every time I have written the abstract early I just end up rewriting it so I shifted it to the end.
Working on slides for my graduate environmental writing class and realized that nobody ever really taught me the steps for writing an academic paper, so here is my process some dozen or so manuscripts later.
13 years ago I was picking up my campus card to start my first year of college - now Iโm back at @ucsantabarbara to start my first year as faculty ๐ฅน๐
Dive into @alexploring's fellowship year...via social! As STPF's first Legislative Branch Fellow in #climate science, Alex said she "really wanted to...work on legislation that would help the climate crisis in a way that I felt like my research was doing." https://t.co/93Ykj1qJcq
At the airport on my way back to California, reflecting on an incredible year as the @AAAS_STPF congressional fellow in climate science. Thanks for this sweet story ๐I already miss Team Padilla! https://t.co/h8hpt3r5Jh
45 memos, 10 letters, 5 bills, and 1 selfie later - my year as a fellow with @SenAlexPadilla has flown by! So grateful to have worked in this office. California, you are in great hands! (Pictured with the @MIT/@Caltech connection: the beaver! ๐ฆซ)
So lovely to finally get to see @teamkorie in person rather than on zoom! We worked together for years on @WomenDoingSci and now are reunited as @AAAS_STPF fellows ๐
My last site visit as a @AAAS_STPF fellow for @SenAlexPadilla! It was an honor to chat with @YosemiteNPS about their approaches to equitable park access and managing sequoias under climate change ๐๏ธ (rockinโ the socks and sandals look ofc!)
@USLTER We argue that research based awards have bias against women and minorities and academic progress can be pretty easily monitored via other metrics like citation counts. Only having awards on service/teaching would also help push the community to value these contributions higher!
What if academic culture started over from scratch... What practices would be kept and what would change?
This thought experiment was the subject of our new paper out today! We offer 14 ways academia could operate in this alternate reality + a survey to hear your thoughts!
