« In Memory of My Son, Archer, and a Final Request for Support »
(I'm going back to work this month.)
Hi Friends,
It's been about 30 days since my son passed away. The pain of losing him is still very real. While I know that, over time, people may expect us to "move on," I wanted to share our fundraiser one more time for visibility. This will be the last time I post about this on social media out of respect for everyone’s well-being and mental health.
For those who believe in God, they often say He has a plan.
For those who don't, they say life is unpredictable.
Either way, the loss is immeasurable, but I know we need to continue living life. If anything, for Archer's sake.
3 years ago when I joined Thangs, I merged my personal and professional profiles. Sorry for anyone who was surprised by the work messages or for those professional contacts who were taken aback by my recent personal loss. After March 17, I will go back to posting about "work stuff" because I genuinely like my work. I chose to work at Thangs for many reasons, but the truth is that the people I've met in 3D printing are doing it with all their hearts and truly "all in." They are now my friends for life. The community in 3D printing is something pure and exciting, just like the early days of Google. I'm incredibly thankful to be part of this growing design community. Furthermore, it was something that truly shaped Archer's life growing up and I wouldn't trade his experiences and love for this technology for anything.
In case you are seeing this for the first time, if you’d like to support my family's recovery and help raise awareness for autism parenting, I’d deeply appreciate any contributions or simply sharing the Safety Lessons for Parents links around. Donations will be used to begin my family's fertility journey and 25% of donations will go to programs that helped us greatly during Archers autism diagnosis:
• GoFundMe: https://t.co/98JzbX3GGC
• Due: April 4, 2025 when we will distribute school donations.

Dear 3D Printing Community,
I'm extremely grateful to everyone who has sent me messages of support and those who have offered their time and love. Thank you so much.
The new Shapeways and Thangs Leadership team have also been very supportive. It's nice to work with people that authentically care about each other and their community members. It reminds me of why I left "big tech" to join #3DPrinting over two years ago. The people. I will never forget your kindness.
@JohnMarkhamJr has been passing on your words of support to me too, so, thank you again to all. I'm taking time from family matters to provide some updates:
Dear 3D Printing Community,
Many of you have watched my son Archer grow from age 3 to 5 through our video calls and shared moments. Some of you even witnessed his fascination with 3D printing and how he'd occasionally pop into my TikTok feed to talk about the moon phases. I need to share the devastating news that Archer passed away on January 29, 2025, following a car accident.
I'm trying my best to recover and will return to work when I can. Your support during this time means more than I can express.
Here on Twitter, we often get caught up in going viral, paid sponsorships, and creating the most innovative platforms and technologies. But remember to step away. Spend time with your family. Take those vacation days.
While I’ve always prided myself on having a successful career, it pales in comparison to the emptiness in my home now. I’d do anything to have my son next to me again.
🆘 For those who would like to support our family during this time, we've established a memorial fund, with 25% benefiting the non-profits that supported Archer's journey with autism:
• GoFundMe: https://t.co/cwleCC28nP
• Fundrazr: https://t.co/7t57guC43N
We’re also facing the heartbreaking reality of being older parents who may never have the chance to raise another child. We’re also establishing this fund both to honor Archer’s memory and to help us try for another child through IVF when the time is right and we’re both ready.
Thank you for being more than just friends and colleagues. Your messages, thoughts, and support mean everything to my family during this time.
Best,
Dan
