Burnham is entirely tone deaf. He’s forgotten most of the UK isn’t Manchester, has never been there, doesn’t plan to go there and doesn’t identify in any way with his vibes. It’s an utterly weird framing if he wants to be popular, which is clearly his life’s main project. Dismal.
Bev Craig, with a bit of help from me, and Andy have been working for a long time on the Digital Campus which finally got the green light a few months ago. On Great Ancoats Street in New Islington. Delighted (not least as it near my office) that this will be home of No 10 North!
@lukejcr Yes because he said he is sticking to the fiscal rules which means nothing is changing. So you launched this coup for new waffle and apparently a leader with charisma(?) after seeing that speech I've established the bar for that is really low.
@DawnButlerBrent@andyburnham Dawn as your constituent you have lost my vote and those that I know. Hope can't grow from a foundation as rotten and directionless as this coup.
@wesstreeting You all have ended the Labour party. Launched an entire coup and we get a load of nonsense - argued that change isn't happening quick enough then ask for YEARS. Labour is finished and I say this as a Labour voter - you have lost the support of your own members.
On @bbclaurak this morning talking about how changing culture is part of doing politics differently, something I know @andyburnham is committed to doing too.
🚨 WATCH: Andy Burnham says he will bring about the "biggest rebalancing of power" the UK has ever seen
"It's time for Whitehall to accept that growth cannot be ordered from the top down. It can only be nurtured from the bottom up"
@wesstreeting You shouldn't be talking about what "reflects badly" given that your brand is being a sleazy backstabber with no credible talent and no principles.
"Westminster bubbleitis", a condition where few square miles of London gets very excited, occasionally very concerned, and convinced the whole country feels the same.
Out in Rugby, people just kept writing in to say thank you to Keir Starmer. That tells you all.
@stellacreasy All of you are disgusting and incredibly out of touch can you not see the fury of Labour members on here!? On top of people going to Reform you have also lost massive amounts of Labour voters and you will reap what you sowed from this rotten bound to fail coup.
Just watched the resignation speech. I don't like seeing humble good men treated like this, almost bullied to be honest. It's not like he partied during covid, lied-every-day-with-glee Boris or destroyed the economy in 4 weeks Truss. He was doing a decent job in bloody crap domestic and international conditions. If ppl think Burnham, Streeting, Polanski, Farage, Badenoch etc will/can do any better - then crack on but you must be mad.
Great to welcome the newest member of the PLP, my friend Andy Burnham, to Parliament.
He'll be a brilliant representative for the people of Makerfield, and I am sure he will quickly make his mark in this place!
