The Indo-West Pacific harbors almost two-thirds of the species in the lanternshark genus 𝐸𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑠 Rafinesque, 1810. While several congeners have been described or revised in recent years, additional undescribed or understudied species exist, pending formal revision and description to fully document this biodiversity.

Here, we provide new findings on six lanternshark species, half of which are new to science: 𝐸𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑢𝑠 sp. nov. from southern Madagascar, a member of the 𝐸. 𝑙𝑢𝑐𝑖𝑓𝑒𝑟 group, is distinct from all other congeners by having its lower-jaw tooth substantially erect and flanked with cusplets in both sexes regardless of maturity stage, and from most group members by having frustum-shaped dermal denticles; 𝐸𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑚𝑎𝑠𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠 sp. nov. from off Reunion Island, a species of the 𝐸. 𝑝𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑢𝑠 group, is distinguished from all other species by having a patch of slightly enlarged, spike-like denticles above the inner margin of the pectoral fin; 𝐸𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑔𝑚𝑢𝑠 sp. nov. from off Reunion Island, also a member of the 𝐸. 𝑝𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑢𝑠 group, is unique among the congeners in having anteriorly positioned tail markings, and an extremely long central caudal marking. 𝐸𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑐𝑢𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠 from the South China Sea, previously known only from the holotype, and 𝐸. 𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑜𝑠𝑢𝑠 from the Western Indian Ocean, known only from limited literature, are redescribed.

Furthermore, the morphology of a single specimen of 𝐸. 𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑘𝑜𝑖 from off New Caledonia, approximately 7,000 km from its previously known distribution, is described. The genus 𝐸𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑠 now contains 48 species.

业力在梵文里本义极朴素，就是造作、行为。你的每一个行为，都会在身心系统里留下一个印记；印记沉淀下来变成一股力量，推着你下次面对类似情境时，做出同样的反应。
