On this day 15 October 1851, Australian slave trader Benjamin Boyd was killed by locals of Guadalcanal, in the present day Solomon Islands. Boyd was the original pioneer of 'blackbirding', which involved deceiving and kidnapping over 60,000 Pacific Islanders to work in Australia.
