@wbuppert @ArmchairW I would argue that it's more political than military driving it. Too much focus by politicians on leaning into the military as a diplomatic stick instead of a military stick. You can build to bully or to fight a real peer, you can't do both. The budgets don't match the CONOPS.

@LewdApril Strip clubs, while legal, are adjacent to too many legal problems and criminal behavior for folks in many career fields to risk attending. I don't foresee all of those problems disappearing with unionization (dens of vice are dens of vice).

@CubeApril There's a lot of space in between "getting by" and really thriving, and in developed nations the gap between the two is getting bigger, more random, and more dependent on intergenerational transfers.

In the 70's and 80's it was more realistic to do the basics and thrive.
