“I don’t understand what kind of system this is. We lost a family member. We filed a complaint against those who assaulted Sharif, leading to his death, and now the police have booked us instead of taking action against the accused, said Sharif’s brother-in-law, Minhaz.

That the Vice-President of India/Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankar has reignited the question of judicial accountability in the wake of the recent cash-burning scandal is a timely and welcome intervention.
Parliament must seize this moment to initiate a free debate on the state of the judiciary. It must rise above party lines to usher in a transparent and robust framework for judicial appointments, transfers, complaint redressal, and institutional conduct—including, crucially, an open debate on the most opaque ‘master of the roster’ system. As I have written previously, the higher judiciary remains structurally incapable of responding to the high number of complaints it receives against its own. The terrible conditions imposed on the district judiciary judges that actually takes away their independence must be discussed with the same priority and flair as higher judiciary. A free and fearless discussion on these issues is not optional today—it is imperative.
The government, on its part, must also introduce legislation mandating all judges, across levels, to publicly disclose their assets by a fixed date each year. Perception matters—and this is the bare minimum that can be done by a popular government.
At the same time, the Opposition must remain vigilant and resist and block, any move that cloaks itself in the rhetoric of reform but in effect destroys judicial independence. Yet let us be clear: any meaningful reform will inherently require to chip away at certain unreasonable privileges masquerading as ‘independence’. The government must guard against the Supreme Court striking down future parliamentary wills under such a guise of preserving judicial autonomy, when what is really at stake is the preservation of status-quo for vested interests.
A judiciary that shields itself from scrutiny cannot demand public trust. And a nation whose courts are seen as corrupt and pliant cannot dream of becoming a developed nation anytime soon. @VPIndia@narendramodi@JPNadda@kharge@JohnBrittas
Badar Khan Suri was my classmate at Jamia Millia Islamia—an introverted, shy guy with an amazing sense of humor. He was literally targeted for marrying a Palestinian girl he met during a solidarity march to Gaza, Palestine in 2010.
I spoke to Soni Sori on what Operation Kagar--the Home Minister's ambitious plan to eliminate naxalites within a year thru paramilitary expansion--has meant for Adivasi people in Bastar. The state of siege is horrifiying. Pls read @frontline_india & share https://t.co/IHvciP8Ct9
Numbers have the power to tell stories effectively; that's how BJP capitalised on the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela. It said 66 cr people attended the festival. But how do we know that? When we looked closely at the data, we found many gaps. | @ditipujara https://t.co/zq1c5lu2RR
Reuters Journalist loses OCI card for writing story, sues Indian government.
Despite its claims of working for Indian diaspora, the government has clearly weaponised the OCI card in recent years

A shameful video emerged from Rajapur town of Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. You can see the crowd, during holi celebrations that when people carrying Shimga (a wooden structure) reached near the mosque, they tried to push the Shimga inside the Masjid gate. Shimga went inside the gate of the mosque by about 3 to 4 feet. Not once but twice. Many in the crowd and the police present there did try to stop the mob. But weren't successful. National media as always ignores such incidents or justifies it.
First read the headline below by @FinancialXpress raising alarm over export of wildanimals from South Africa to Ambani’s Vantara. And then open their article link to see the article headline magically change to praising Ambani's Vantara. 🤣
Is there any pressure on the media
from Ambani not to question Vantara?
Several media outlets have deleted or altered the coverage of the South African organisation raising alarm over export of wild animals to Ambani's Vantara. Financial Express completely changed the article.
Northeast Now, a Guwahati-based media outlet which has not taken down the story. Mahesh Deka, the editor, told us that the organisation received a threatening email post the publishing of the Vantara story about the request for investigation by a South African NGO. Other than the email, the organisation was also approached by a PR firm and offered financial incentives to take down the article or change it to a different version which the agency would propose.
Vartha Bharati, a Karnataka-based media house, too, received similar communications. An editor from the organization told Alt News that they got a call regarding their Vantara article from a person identifying himself as a representative of Reliance Corporate Communication.

In the run-up to Holi, every channel is debating whether Muslims should step out of their homes or not or go to the masjid for namaz. Every festival is a battleground, every religious practice a test of dominance. The media plays its role perfectly — stoking paranoia instead of coexistence. There’s no sense of festivity or joy in all of this, just how to put the other in their place. Meanwhile, the world is discussing economy, AI, trade, we’re stuck manufacturing communal strife. “Vishwa Guru” but can’t even guarantee peace on a festival.
Going to say this again.
This may be a Government of the people, by the people, but definitely not for the people.
Public health is the least concern in India.
Never seen a government with so much cognitive dissonance.
For example, the government was running an anti-obesity campaign (percentage of children under 5 years who are overweight increased from 2.1% in 2015-16 to 3.4% in 2019-21) instead of fighting malnutrition (35.5% of children under five are stunted, and 18.7% are wasted).
More funding for AYUSH (the center point of pseudoscience in the world) instead of actual scientific institutions.
People live in a delusion here. Nobody wants to wake up.
On February 13, 2025, the Income Tax Bill, 2025, was introduced in Lok Sabha seeking to replace the Income Tax Act, 1961. It explicitly grants authorities the power to access and seize virtual digital spaces, putting your cloud storage & digital accounts at risk. It also broadens "undisclosed income" to include all virtual assets.
IFF has written to the Select Committee to review the Bill, citing serious concerns about privacy and constitutional rights.
IFF has recommended the Select Committee to:
✔️ Add safeguards on proportionality and minimal intrusion
✔️ Require judicial oversight for search warrants
✔️ Ensure digital evidence integrity
✔️ Improve transparency & taxpayer rights
