Canada is celebrating the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs today.
That is certainly welcome news.
But for many Canadians, the real question remains:
Is having a job still enough to build a decent life?
If working families continue to struggle with housing costs, groceries, transportation, and everyday expenses, we cannot measure economic success by employment numbers alone.
A strong economy is not one where people simply have jobs.
It is one where hard work provides a genuine path to stability, dignity, and opportunity.
Canadian businesses are constantly looking for reliable suppliers, competitive manufacturing partners, and new international opportunities.
On June 8 in Toronto and June 11 in Montreal, leading Turkish manufacturers will be meeting with Canadian companies for one-on-one B2B meetings focused on construction, infrastructure, metal manufacturing, engineering, and industrial materials.
Türkiye is one of the world's major manufacturing hubs. This is a unique opportunity to build direct business relationships and explore new supply chain opportunities.

I was pleased to join community members today in supporting MPP Andrea Hazell's @AndreaHazelll call for a public inquiry into the Scarborough Subway Extension.
Major public infrastructure projects require not only investment, but also public trust. When costs rise significantly and timelines change, residents deserve transparency and accountability.
Scarborough families, workers, seniors, and students have carried the burden of transit disruptions for years. They deserve clear answers and a transit system that delivers on its promises.
A public inquiry is about strengthening confidence in the project and ensuring lessons are learned while construction continues.
Scarborough deserves both progress and accountability.

Ontario families are facing rising costs, housing shortages, healthcare pressures and growing concerns about public safety.
Despite these challenges, the government has chosen to shorten the legislative calendar and extend the summer recess at Queen's Park.
Every sitting day is an opportunity to debate solutions, improve legislation and hold decision makers accountable.
At a time when Ontarians are working harder than ever, they deserve a Legislature that is fully focused on the issues that matter most.

Today, we commemorate the 573rd anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul, a defining moment in world history that marked the beginning of a new era.
The conquest was not only a military achievement, but also a symbol of vision, determination, innovation, and leadership. Under the command of Sultan Mehmed II, Istanbul emerged as one of the most significant centers of civilization, connecting continents, cultures, and generations.
On this meaningful anniversary, we honor the legacy of those who shaped history and commemorate the 573rd anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul.
The Scarborough Southwest process showed how much people care about political participation and democratic engagement.
Different perspectives are natural, and appeal mechanisms are part of any healthy democratic process. A decision has now been made, and the focus moving forward should be on serving our communities and strengthening a politics that earns people’s trust.
At the end of the day, we are all working toward something bigger than ourselves.

Regarding the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Greek Cypriot Administration concerning the so called “Pontus claims”
We strongly reject and condemn the baseless statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA), which attempts to distort the historical realities of May 19, 1919 through unfounded allegations, seeks to fuel hostility, and deliberately ignores the atrocities suffered by the Turkish Cypriot people.
May 19, 1919 was not a genocide, but the first step of the Turkish Nation’s glorious resistance against occupation, subjugation, and the partition of its homeland. The allegations being put forward are nothing more than an attempt to conceal the crimes committed by the imperialist powers that occupied Anatolia at the time, along with the separatist gangs that collaborated with them and carried out massacres against the local population.
The claim of “Turkish occupation” included in the statement is also in complete contradiction with historical and legal realities. Türkiye, as a guarantor state, was not an occupier but a saviour, contrary to these allegations.
Between 1963 and 1974, the Turkish Cypriot people were subjected to systematic violence, massacres, forced displacement, and attempts of annihilation by the Greek Cypriot terrorist organization EOKA and the Greek Junta mentality. Turkish Cypriots were forced into enclaves comprising only three percent of the island. Exercising its legal rights arising from the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee and Treaty of Alliance, the Motherland Türkiye carried out the Peace Operation in order to protect the lives and security of the Turkish Cypriot people and to prevent the Enosis coup.
Türkiye’s legitimate intervention stopped the bloodshed and violence caused by the Greek Cypriot side and brought peace to the entire island.
Such baseless allegations, repeatedly used by the Greek Cypriot administration as a political propaganda tool, only harm efforts toward peace and stability between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot peoples.
We call on the Greek Cypriot administration to abandon hate speech and unfounded accusations, to act honestly in light of historical realities, and to work toward developing good neighbourly relations between two sovereign and equal neighbouring states.

Today, on May 19, we honour the legacy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and commemorate the beginning of Türkiye’s War of Independence, a defining moment in the history of the Turkish nation.
The Federation of Canadian Turkish Associations supports the statement issued by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the events and statements made in Greece on May 19, 2026 concerning the so called “Pontus” allegations.
Historical facts should never be distorted for political purposes or used to fuel hostility between nations. The suffering experienced by all peoples throughout history must be approached with fairness, historical accuracy, and mutual respect.
We believe the future of Türkiye and Greece should be built on peace, dialogue, cooperation, and good neighbourly relations rather than narratives that deepen division and animosity.
As Canadian Turks, we remain committed to defending historical truth, promoting mutual understanding, and strengthening respect between communities and nations.
Below is the English translation of the statement issued by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
Regarding Certain Events Organized and Statements Made in Greece on 19 May 2026
No: 95
19 May 2026
The founder of the Republic of Türkiye, the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun, which initiated our national struggle against occupying forces, including Greece, on 19 May 1919, is celebrated enthusiastically by the Turkish nation within the scope of the “Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.”
Greece, in 1994, adopted at the national level allegations regarding the “Pontus” claim that are devoid of legal basis against our country, and continues to expand these unfounded allegations without any hesitation and teaches them as lessons to children in primary and secondary schools throughout the country through directives issued by the Ministry of Education.
Having failed in the occupation attempt it initiated in order to realize the “Megali Idea” dream, Greece is attempting to cover up the defeat it experienced and the grave atrocities it committed by bringing unfounded “Pontus” allegations against our country onto the agenda. The war crimes committed and atrocities carried out by the Greek army were recorded in the reports of the Allied Powers Investigation Commission and in Article 59 of the Treaty of Lausanne.
Greek authorities should cease exploiting history for political concerns and should remember, in addition to the atrocities committed against Turks and other ethnic groups beginning with the Tripolitsa massacre in 1821, the massacres carried out against Turks and other ethnic groups in Western Anatolia beginning with the occupation attempt of İzmir on 15 May 1919.
We invite Greece, instead of distorting facts and deriving hostility from history, to adopt an attitude that will develop our bilateral relations within peace and cooperation.

A credible democratic process does not fear review or scrutiny.
The decision to proceed with a formal hearing is an important step toward maintaining public confidence in the integrity, transparency, and fairness of political nominations.
In a democracy, trust in the process matters just as much as the outcome. #onpoli
