Today, women finally stop working for free.
The gender pay gap of 14.3% means women work the first two months of the year unpaid.
At this rate it’ll take 20 years to close the gap.
Labour’s New Deal for Working People would be a huge boost for working women by:
✅ Introducing fair pay agreements in social care
✅ Banning zero-hours contracts
✅ Giving all workers a day one right to flexible work
It’s clear just publishing gender pay gaps isn’t working. We need action.
#insomnia#heat I refuse to call it a flush - it’s a rolling boil - think of boiling a pan of potatoes you can get the idea! Ever had your #memory just short out for minutes in a lecture even though you know the content? #menopause and #peri can be a lonely place at work and home
Menopause in the workplace: Guidance for employers | EHRC @ucu reps and members should be reminding managers and leadership that the #EHRC has published its guidance and #HEandFE should have this in place. https://t.co/eakANy9S9s
Every single #ucu ballot counts. Take the opportunity to be heard. I - Alison Hawkings - am standing for NEC London and East to lift up the voice of the smaller branch and POST92s. #vote
Monday 26th Feb is the last safe date to post your @ucu ballots #UWL members and all‼️every vote counts. If you want different people in the room representing your voice then this is the time to do it! #vote#nec#gs#vp#trustee
There is still time to get your votes in @UCU_UWL and all members. There is still a lot of work to do nationwide and in our own branches to hold power to account and to make our working conditions and pay fairer. New tactics new ideas and resilience - That’s my offer
It’s #HeartUnionsWeek know a non member of @ucu@UWLUNISON at #UWL talk about the benefits of a collective voice on health and Safety and Wellbeing; tackling stress; workloads; useful cpd; and reps listening ears. We are better together #JoinAUnion#loveUWL
Eroding our humans rights to protest and freely associate is an assault on democracy and ruling by consent. People must have the right to hold power to account whether government or employer @UCU_UWL#HumanRights
The Conservatives have announced minimum service level regulations in the fire service.
This is a flagrant attack on the right to strike of firefighters.
No one should be sacked for exercising their right to strike.
Our message to government: we will fight these draconian laws all the way – working with the FBU and every other union affected.
As a ucu rep working at UWL we know our staff are concerned with the national degradation of arts, creative and humanities provision as well as fighting for resources . #solidarity to #Kentuni ucu and non members who are fighting for survival ❤️❤️❤️
Happier workforces = happier workplaces and improved productivity. Let’s be mindful that @The_TUC also needs to make sure @labour do not soften or recoil from pledges made.
Staff working conditions are students’ learning conditions.
@chloenusvphe and the @nusuk explain that students were and are supportive of our industrial action.
[email protected] - help us out by flooding Kent’s VC with emails. Linguistics has been suffocated over years by university marketing strategy we have no control over. Despite everything we’ve produced the best students who have gone on to do PhDs at the best depts in the world.
This is why all #UWL staff should join @ucu below is Kent slashing arts, humanities and social sciences from its portfolio to consolidate its margins and reserves. It’s not always those in financial difficulty who cut but those looking for a cushion ⬇️
@UCU_UWL@RavensbourneUK refusing to recognise @ucu members as a recognised trade union lacks best HR practice. from one west London institution to another #Solidarity ❤️
disappointed that @RavensbourneUK are refusing to recognise #RavensbourneUCU.
As a design graduate of the 1980’s, I was proud of my #BromleyBauhaus roots, but not any more.
It seems their mistrust comes from a position of fear, but
what are they frightened of? #workwithUCU
Voting in the @ucu elections has never been so important ‼️I - Alison Hawkings - am standing as NEC candidate for London with new tactics and a different voice to put in the room. Let’s reboot and change the deck! #ucu#new#NEC@UCU_UWL
And many others are on ‘indefinite with an end date’ contract, which unis claim as a success, but still treat staff as fixed-term and disposable. It’s exhausting, frustrating and wrong.
