DIG-APS ATTENDS OFFICIAL OPENING OF NANYUKI POLICARE CENTRE
Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, today attended the official opening of the Nanyuki POLICARE Centre at Nanyuki Police Station, Laikipia East Sub-County.
The POLICARE Centre was constructed with support from the British High Commission through the REINVENT Programme and the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK), and handed over to NPS in 2022.
Since its establishment, the Centre has greatly enhanced the capacity of the National Police Service (NPS) to address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) expeditiously.
In his address, the British High Commissioner, H.E. Neil Wigan, who was the chief guest, expressed his gratitude to NPS for the dedication and selflessness its officers exhibit in offering services to the public, even under difficult and challenging circumstances.
H.E. Wigan further assured the Service of continued support in the fight against counterterrorism, narcotics, and transnational organised crime.
On his part, DIG Masengeli welcomed the continued partnership with the British Government, noting that the collaboration has enabled the Service to make strides in service delivery for the benefit of the public.
He added that these collective efforts from various stakeholders and partners will also go a long way in strengthening the Inspector General's clarion call to make police stations centres of excellence and to convert Gender Desks into fully-fledged Gender Units.
Today's event also provided an opportunity for the leaders to meet members of the Community Policing Committees, the County Security Committee, Nyumba Kumi leaders, and members of the public in the area, as part of efforts to reinvigorate the fight against GBV.
Also in attendance were the Governor of Laikipia County, Hon. Joshua Irungu, County Police Commander for Laikipia, Mr. Benjamin Cherwon Boen, CP, Laikipia County Commissioner, Mr. Onesmus Kyatha, Chief of Party of REINVENT, Ms. Jaki Mbogo, and representatives from the Ministry of Health, State Department for Gender, and the Judiciary.

We were honored to host @FCDONeilWigan at our Early Warning Early Response (EWER) Hub in Mombasa, where he gained firsthand insight into how the system is enhancing crime and violence prevention in Kenya’s coastal region. Some of the key outputs include;
The system disaggregated 517 reports and alerts in 2024. These alerts were critical in informing the security interventions and decisions that helped to mitigate conflict situations.
The system has strengthened collaboration between communities, local structures, and security actors, leading to improved response and violence prevention. Through the support of @ReinventKenya community policing structures have been reinforced, enhancing information sharing and patrols in hotspot areas. Increased awareness on S-GBV prevention and access to justice has led to 20+ active case follow-ups, with 15+ prosecutions ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.
Our dedicated EWER monitors shared their experiences, highlighting the impact of real-time data in shaping effective security responses. Together, we continue to build safer communities. #KEWER
